Well, I am back after 2 months of training on PDR, windshield repair, painting and interior repair. This will help my business a great deal. I only found one company that offers a loan, so that is why I chose USDent in Kansas City. PDQ TOOLS is one of the best training companies, but do not have loans. The PDR training was pretty good (5 week coarse), but it will take practice to get perfect. I thought I would offer a few notes if anyone was interested since this kind of training is not cheap. 1. When training for PDR - ask a lot of questions on accessing dents and which dents can not be taken out. Headliners will be your nightmare and certain Mercedes windows will shatter if applying to much pressure with a tool on doors. When choosing a place for training - ask about business packages which will help in expanding your business. Business packages usually have templates for advertising, websites, and etc.
2. Start with a basic tool set and expand on tools that you would fine useful. Don't always buy from one company. I have a list of companies if anyone is interested. Two companies that are really good are pdqtools and pdrtool.
3. For interior repair - get the videos from http://www.superiorrestoration.com/ as I found them very useful. There are other companies but Superior is very friendly and helpful. They are the only ones that have training videos and tech tips on their website. After watching thier videos you can do interior repair.
4. For painting there are three major companies - PPG, Dupont, and Sikkia. Sikkia is supposed to be the best. Check your area as some auto supply companies stock paint.
5. There are a couple of ways to repair scratches - one is by filling the scratch in with a flow pencil (I found this fills the scratch, but you can still see it up close. The other way is to airbrush and blend the repair into the existing paint. I will post more on this when I have it all written up as it is a little long.
6. For repair of rock chips a paint brush works the best and a 1500 grit sanding bar (so you can do some minor sanding on chips for blending).
