PC Pads

I have never had this question and I hope someone can help me. I had a guy attempt to sell me a pretty big wax pad that does fit my PC. I was wondering if you can use a pad that is so much bigger than the original? Is there anything wrong with using this large of a pad on such a small velco backing plate?

It seems like the backing plate is probably called that for a reason. An 8" or 10" pad on a 5" or 6" backing plate won't be too well supported. Staying with the proper sized pads for your backing plate seems like a good plan to follow. :)

I used an edge pad the other day (9" I think) with the 6" backing plate. I can buy the pads locally for $6, so I figured why not try it. As charles stated the pad was not very well supported but, it did speed up the process and I don't feel it took away from the convenience of using the pc.

If I could get high quality pads that fit my backing plate locally at such an affordable price I would rahter have them but, since these are so cheap to me I can't pass them up. I may change my mind with further use but, for now I plan on using them again.

I've never seen a backing plate larger than 6". I have 6" pads on both the rotary and PC and no problem using the 9" pads on the rotary with that 6" plate. I wouldn't use a 8" or 9" pad with a 5" backing plate...especially on a rotary as there might not be enough velcro surface area to hold the pad once the machine starts spinning.

I should have included that I used the pad with the PC, not a rotary. Though the velcro held very well with a pc I can see where with a rotary that may not be the case.
