PC or Hand Job?

On the rear trunk lid of my corvette are many cleaning marks invisible in daylight but under halide lighting very visible. Should I spot polish these by hand or use my PC? I don't want to create additional marks, etc.

haha the title is a good choice of words, i dont think u could go wrong hitting the whole trunk with a pass or 2 on the pc. its quicker and im pretty sure it will take care of the marks u have. try something not very aggressive first to save u more time and see if that takes care of it

I have the LC spot pads in yellow, gray and white and will be using SSR 1. Which color pad would you use for removal of very fine marks left by buffing?

Yeah, try the LC white, the yellow is too aggressive a pad for something as mild as SSR1. I'd use a more aggressive product with the white pad before I switched to the yellow one. Don't worry about the PC being too aggressive, if anything you'll find it's not as aggressive as you'd like. While I haven't tried the SSR1, I suspect that it'll be too mild for what you're doing, though it should make things a little better.

LOL@ the thread title.

I can echo what Accumulator has just said I think you will find the SSR 1 to be to mild and not do anything for you swirls.

I have been working my own car today remove some light dealer inflicted swirls, I tried SSR 1 with a polishing pad to no avail, but was worried about going to harsh on my softish black paint so stepped up to SSR2 on a polishing pad and with one or two applications in places I have had a succesful day on the car. Like you I was nervous of making more than I took out. Work the product well so it breaks down and you should be happy.

I also have SSR2 so I will start with the ssr1 and if not satisfied go with the ssr2! Thanks for your suggestions!

After trying different combinations I found success with a white Edge2000 pad using SSR1! The cleaning scratches are gone! Thanks for your suggestions!

yankees1- Glad you got it all fixed up! Now you'll feel comfortable using the PC on future details :xyxthumbs

I'm pleasantly surprised that the SSR1 was aggressive enough. People are always saying how hard the paint on their 'vettes is (and I never had to do any real correction on the C5 I had), so I wasn't too optimistic.

I first use a grey spot pad(LC) with SSR1 with no luck, I then used SSR2 with this same spot pad with no luck. I switched to my Edge2000 green pad with SSR2 and I did remove cleaning lines/marks but introduced MANY swirling micro marks. I switched to Edge2000 white pad with SSR1 and this was just the ticket! Paint is near perfect.
