Can anyone tell me how much diffrent is the PC compared to the dewalt? I asume there is more then one dewalt poilisher? what do you guys the weight diffrance is. (how much more heavier)

Are you talking about a dual action polisher, like the Porter Cable 7424/7336? I don't believe DeWalt makes an equivalent product.

Or are you referring to rotary polishers? Both companies offer them.

I believe he is referring to the DeWalt DW443 DA which is just like the PC.

Here's a link to the DeWalt page: http://www.dewalt.com/us/products/tool_detail.asp?productID=125

Obvious differences:

PC - 3.7amp motor

2500-6000 OPM

5 3/4 lbs.

DeWalt - 4.3 amp motor

4300-6800 opm

5.7 lbs (basically the same as pc)

Having the DeWalt would be like having a PC that only had settings 4.5-6.8, whereas the PC is 2.5-6

IMHO, the DeWalt is a little too *fast*. The added power is a plus but it doesn't have enough control over the speed for my taste.

This is the link to the dewalt and I'm taking about the PC DA

Also can I cut with a PC?

Comparing the PC to the DeWalt in the picture is the old apples to oranges comparision. The DW849 shown in the picture is a rotary buffer and the PC is an orbital buffer. Though I haven't got first hand experience with this DeWalt, I would expect it would work well for cutting or any other rotary necessitated work. The PC on the other hand is a quality orbital machine and a good finish/light cutting machine. It shouldn't be your first choice when considering serious cutting or swirl removal. Different tools for different purposes.;)

Uhhh... so HIS link isn't the product HE is asking about? I saw your link but it didn't appear to be the product he was looking at. My reply was only to his question and the link he posted.

Yeah, that rotary is a lot different than the PC7424 D/A. Two different animals that are designed to do the same sort of thing.

I suppose with time and effort you can cut paint with a D/A but that's not its forte. A rotary polisher is designed for this task, not a D/A.

I have a PC D/A, a PC7428 rotary and a DeWalt 849 rotary. If there is a specific question you have about these particular machines, feel free to ask.

Sorry about that, I just automatically assumed he wasn't comparing a rotary to a DA and since DeWalt has a new DA out, and everyone's been talking about it I just figured that's what he was referring to. :xyxthumbs

So let's ask him. What ARE you comparing here. DA to DA, or DA to Rotary?
