Paypal vs Square

Square seems the best still but the customer service thing has me worried simply for the fact that I've heard of PLENTY of issues from shops where the CC was charged more than was supposed to and it was a HUGE hassle to get the customer their money back. This looks BAD on us business owners simply for the fact because a.) it's a hassle to fix b.) Customer worries about their account getting hacked c.) they think we ripped them off or tried to pull a fast one on them.

I have been getting customers weekly asking about taking credit card. I tell them no but will soon but am trying to hold off for as long as possible until all these bugs are taken care of.

I had the same problem. Square is convenient, and I do keep it as a backup option, but I've been using "Phone Swipe". It's similar to Square in every way except they answer the phone when I have a problem. :2thumbs:

Of course, each persons experience will vary, but I asked my accountant g/f about her Square experience today. In over a thousand transactions last year, they never had a error in a charge amount.. However, they have had the actual process fail, and it took multiple swipes before the charge was initiated , signed, and receipt dolled out properly. iPhone 4 (AT&T). But if it doesn't work for you, it obviously puts the business person in a pickle if you rely on it solely which is understandable.



The online vs phone support does suck though.



I believe there is a Square competitor coming up through the ranks backed by a cc company as well, so maybe this will bring good news for everybody.

Has anyone here used both of these methods of credit card payments on a mobile device? I am on the fence on which one to go with. I've been holding off on taking credit cards but have had a lot of customers wanting to use cards now and also now that I am going to be selling detailing products here in NC, I will need to accept credit cards. I did some of my own research but seems that every bit of info I find is all based on opinions from people who have never used BOTH products and services. Paypal has a very slightly lower charge for each scan than Square but it seems the time it takes to deposit the money into your bank with Paypal is much longer. Square says next day before 5PM and Paypal says 3 days and 6 for checks... Only thing I like about Paypal minus the slight lower charge is that if I do an online store, I can use Paypal shopping cart and everything be tied in together.

Any info and opinions would be greatly appreciated!

You need a business membership, but these are the best rates I have found. BTW, you don't need to lease their machine. I have a source if you think this is right for you. I paid $250 for a brand new terminal.
