Paste Wax - Spread on Car or Spread on PC PAD?

This may be a dumb question, but should I spread paste wax on the car first, or should I use a "butter knife" to spread the wax on the foam pad??

Thanks.

I use those round cotton applicators, looks like a round foam pad wrapped in white cotton. I smear the cotton pad on the wax like you would smear a a towel on shoe polish before applying it to your shoe.

Most people don't apply wax with a PC but if you do decide to I would really recommend a liquid wax, it'll make it MUCH easier to apply to the PC pad.

it's a good question, i've been thinking about it recently myself (since getting some s100)...but before you get flamed, i'll just say that from searching around here i've come to understand this:

you *can* do it that way, most people say it ends up using more product than needed. most say it's way too easy to do by hand that it's almost a waste to do it with a pc.

but if anyone else could add/contradict the above stated "collected" answer, please chime in!

Well you COULD use a black/grey PC pad and smear it in the wax paste jar like it was a hand applicator, then stick it back onto the backing plate and apply it with the machine, just seems like a hassle but whatever floats your boat is cool. :xyxthumbs

OK, *I'LL* chime in! Paste wax by machine DOES float MY boat :D

I apply 3M Showcar Paste Wax, Collinite 476S, and Meguiar's #16 by random orbital all the time. I like it a lot better than doing it by hand and *I* think it looks better. I apply the wax to the (finishing) pad using a plastic razor blade or a cut-down-to-fit plastic scraper/spatula/etc.

Maybe it DOES waste some product, but *I* don't mind. It's easy on my shoulders and I like the idea of all those orbits-per-minute. Anyway, a tin of wax holds enough for YEARS' worth of applications no matter HOW much you waste (well, within reason!).

Try it both ways and stick with the method that YOU prefer. Hey, even *I* love to apply Souveran or P21S to my XJS by hand!

I have 4" foam pads I use made by Simoniz. They have the velcro fastener and the size fits in the #26 can. I stick it in there and give the trigger a shot .. then wax away. I can apply to a mid sized car in 15 min or less .. then wipe off ..

I've often thought that paste wax should come packaged in a twist-up applicator (much like solid deodorants). I apply S100 by hand, but have a hard time getting my favorite applicators (Autopia Handi-Grip or the similar Viking applicator) down in the can. With the wax in a twist-up dispenser, it would be easier to use larger foam apps or foam pads for the PC.

I've considered trying to put some S100 into an empty deodorant applicator to see if this works as well as I think it will, but I'm unsure if the wax would melt and re-solidify properly . . .

I spead paste wax on a foam pad with a spatula and then smear on the panel before starting the PC

:lol Now that's an original idea! Not bad.... I wonder if some waxes are soft enough that you could just pack it into a deodorant dispenser and not have to melt it?

Just don't get the containers mixed up or you'll have 'pits that bead and sheet water. ;)

What would u think about this:

Some friends from my home country make the shoe polish liquid. The shoe polish contains oils and they are flamable.

They turn the shoe polish into liquid using matches. When the shoe polish is on fire it turns liquid for some time.

Could we do something similar with the wax?

Just a dumb idea
