Panel spotting from dressing????

Ok many years ago I remember reading about tire dressings causing spotting on light colored panels. Always seemed to be solvent dressings that were mentioned. These spots seemed to disappear over several months. I only encountered it one time on a white pontiac. The indeed went away after a few months. Apparently those spots came from a detail at a dealer. I've used water based dressing and never encountered a problem in my 16 years of cleaning cars. The story as I understood it was the dressings were interacting with the mold sepearation fluids on the new tires. The story seemed to change with each new article on the subject. Fast forward several years and recently I had a customer with two new suv's, both white. Cleaned both and two weeks later, I noticed some spots on only one of the suv's. As I only use water based dressing and it was only on one vehicle I figured maybe the vehicle ran through something (lot of construction in the area) that caused it. Just the same I barely dressed the tires this time. Could the water based dressing be the blame? It's stuff by Dealers choice which I believe is a spin off from Auto Magic. I've got it from my AM rep but using up the last of it this week.
