Pakshak MF mitts for washing?

maecrispy

Obsessed... who me?
I've always used sheepskin mitts but I *cannot* seem to get any of my mitts to last more than a dozen washings before they start to fall apart.

I'd like to try MF mitts and who better to get them from than Ranney, right? :p

So, does anyone use his MF mitts for washing? Or are MF mitts just a bad idea? I've read all the threads on MF vs. sheepskin washing but it seems like many who have tried one haven't necessarily tried the other.

So are more Autopians trying MF mitt washing? With proper technique, is it safe? I'm interested in both hose washing and QEW washing.

Any and all thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I just bought a Simoniz MF mitt (not from pakshak) and I actually love it. I hose blast my mitt after every panel and the dirt comes off it pretty easily even though it quite plush. It seems to feel gentle on my paint when I wash, never seen any scratching from it and keeps the suds in nicely. I actually prefer it to the chenile I had. I actually just ordered the MF mitt from pakshak yesterday so I 'll see how it compares to the one I have. I know alot of people don't like them but to each his own. As long as you properly wash you shouldn't have any problems.

it sounds good for hose washing, but for something like QEW, which what I strictly do now, it might hold particles a little too well and possibly scratch. Microfiber just likes to hold on to everything it comes in contact with. If you rinse it frequently during wash, it sounds like it'll be better than sheepskin

Sorry I'm a noob but a search for QEW came up with so many answers I could never really find what it was. the acc section says....

QEW Protect All Quick & Easy Wash

What exactly is that compared with "hose washing"?

A link would suffice if you know where to find the answer.

thank you

I used a Pakshak MF wash mit a couple of times on black.I can't say it caused any marring but I got nervous using it because there's not a lot of material there to keep the dirt away from the finish, unlike a sheepskin mit which is very thick and plush.I now use the MF mitt on the wheels and lower plastic cladding and use a sheep skin on the upper painted surface.

I use the Pakshak MF mitts for detailing my HRE wheels. My hand fits perfect inside the mitt and allows me to reach inside the mesh type spokes on my wheels...:up

The one thing I noticed on the Pakshak mitt from the picture is it seems to not be very plush. I actually bought it to clean my interior so it might not be best for paint.

Hi Teck. Welcome also. I'm new and know what you mean. It took me a little while to figure out what QEW was. All it is is a washing solution that is diluted with water and needs no rinsing. It is made for RV's and could be bought at RV related stores. I'm not even half way through a 16 oz botlle in 3 months. I'll post a link to a thread if someone doesn't beat me to it.

I personally like my chenelle wash mit. It works great for me. As for the pak shak mits, it dont know if i would want to use them. Nothing against Ranney, but like jrocc said, id be afraid it would hold all the dirt and just drag it all along the surface, but i dont know. Get ranney in here and ask him, he sells the stuff, he will probably know better than any of us.

Thanks for the replies all. Looks like MF mitts may be useful, even if I don't use them for panel washing. I could use them for wheels (like Pats300zx) or interior use which would be kinda cool (especially for low raked front and rear windows.)

I'll give them a shot for a wash or two and see what kind of results I get. With good mitt rinsing, it may work well. My TL's silver so it's kinda forgiving. Maybe my buddy will let me experiment on his black car. :o

Now MF for QEW washing, that's a different story. I'm not sure I'm that brave... :nixweiss

Hi All,

I would recommend using a genuine sheepskin wash mitt to wash your vehicles. As some of you have mentioned, the MF mitts work well with cleaning rims and also interior work. Some have used them to buff off wax, polish, and sealants. The MF mitts are not recommended to wash vehicles because it they does not have a foam liner it to hold enough water nor is it thick or plush.

With Aloha,

Ranney :)

Well, there you go. Now that's what you call honest service.

I think I'll buy some anyway just for interior work. Nice to see not every businessman is out to sell you everything at all costs.

As soon as I figure out everything I want, I'll be emailing you, Ranney, for that Autopian discount! :D

maecrispy .. I wash at least a car a day and a mitt lasts me a couple of months .. Mine never dries out and all I do is rinse it at the end of a wash and drape it over the edge of the wash pail.

Ranney is the man. Even on his site it doesn't have pictures or stating that the MF mitt should be used for washing panels so there's no false advertising there. The MF mitt I use does have a foam liner and is plush and I'm quite happy with it. I'll see how durable it is.

I don't see there's any danger at all if you use it for washing even though theres no foam lining or whatever. Not to say there's not false advertising but more of marketing gimmicks. I'd give it a try next couple of days and let ya'll know.

Jesstzn: do you think me letting the sheepskin mitts completely dry is what's causing them to crack and get holes so quickly?

I never machine wash them. I typically do what you do and just rinse them and hang 'em up to dry. I do notice if I go more than 2-3 days of not using them, they are quite stiff. Maybe I'm bending them and they're cracking. I dunno.

I use sheepskin when I wash and I like them better then MF.Do they last long, maybe a few months but I buy 4 at a time so they last about a year for me.I dry them (after hosing it off letting it drip dry and had no problems)
