Between these two products, which would work the best and be the safest for getting weatherstrip adhesive off of paint and plastic trim?

Ok you two, I bought a quart of this today and I have some questions. First, the stuff I bought was callled 3M all purpose adhesive cleaner, and the part number was 08984. I don't know what this stuff costs in your area, but I paid a whoppen $12.25.

I really don't understand or see the difference between this product and mineral spirits. Both the 3M and the mineral spirits took off the weatherstrip adhesive I had. I did notice the 3M stuff evaporated quicker, which I'm sure is a plus when using on automotive paint. Have you used this product on plastic headlights? What about using this for paint overspray?

The 3M and similar products from competitors are "cocktails" of certain solvents, mineral spirits of some type can be one of them. Since the 3M product is formulated for automotive use I'd think it ought to do well on headlights also. I would try clay for paint overspray first.

I haven't deliberately used it on plastics but I haven't noticed any problem with incidental contact.

Unless the overspray is from a paint that's supposed to dissolve I doubt it would do much. It is intended to preserve paint, not harm it. Clay is the way to go for overspray.

PC.

I like to give advice based on my personal experience so I can be confident of the outcome and not end up feeling bad because of unpredicted results (read damage).

When I'm prepping a car for body work and subsequent painting, when called for I use Adhesive Remover.

Some Adheasive Removers may take down overspray, but as others have said I'll either use Clay or laquer paint thinner.
