Paint Thickness - SafeTo Correct ?

I have a 1997 Ford Ranger that a guy brought to me that he is trying to restore. The paint has a lot of RIDS in it that he would like corrected or at least the effect lessened. The main areas of concern are showing a paint thickness of around 3.6 mils. The average on the truck is in the 3.9- 4.1 range. How aggressive can I get with this paint and still be safe ?

That's about the normal range for most factory painted vehicles.

Exactly. I would just take it easy, and keep in mind that it will be impossible to get it perfect. Do a light, maybe multi-step correction, and leave it there.
