Paint Ripples

Hey guys, I recnely had to have my door repainted due to some deep scratches of someone keying it. The paint quality looks pretty good, but in one spot the paint is quite rippled. It almost looks like a crappy bondo job, just very wavy. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Body shop doesnt want any part of fixing it

Thanks in advance!

If the ripples are runs in the top coat they can be sanded (or shaved) flush and buffed out. If they're in the base, primer, filler or metal you're out of luck.

PC.

I had this problem when a door was repainted on my black hemi. The part of the door that had the ripples was just recleared as a part of the repair process -- no bondo, no basecoat. The shop simply messed up on the job. They didn't want to redo it for fear of making it worse. I figured what the heck and tried wetsanding it. I chickened out after putting a couple of sanding scratches in the clearcoat. I buffed out the scratches and took it back to the shop. They didn't want to wetsand it because they were afraid that the orange peel wouldn't match the adjacent panel. The tried buffing it with a wool pad. It did nothing.

Finally I reminded them that I had been a very good customer for over thirty years and I wanted it fixed right. They carefully prepped the door and recleared it. it looks great now, but what a hassle. I'm certainly not on the painter's list of favorites. Oh well.

The shop needs to make it right. Keep at them.
