Paint Peeling issues...

This is my car (2002 Dodge Ram 1500), and it's my DD, however I'm pretty anal about it and can't stand issues like the following. The paint on the front/top of the radiator is peeling off (in multiple places, I just posted a pic of the most obvious one), and on the hinges in the door jambs. I want to fix it, but am not exactly sure what the procedure should be. Should I peel off all of the paint, then throw down some primer and the paint? I think that's the plan of action for the radiator, but what about the door hinge? Pics...

wow. where do you live? It appears that it is probably some place that is surrounded by salt/snow. I personally think for the door hinges you might have to peel off the remaining paint otherwise your fix will not be level. If you are really concerned about the rust get some sort of rust prevention that you can dab on or spray on to stop the rust from spreading. At that point the rust will usually change color to black . . . . you can then maybe primer it and proceed to painting.

as for the radiator your process sounds well just make sure to use some hi temp automotive paint otherwise im sure it will just peal again due to the heat the radiator receives.

I hope that helps a little bit . . . . .

Ok, thanks. I live in the midwest (Ohio/Indiana/KY is where I've lived with this truck), so yea we get a good bit of snow, and therefore road salt. Never though of that. Any recommendations on the rust prevention? I've never dealt with this sort of thing before. It's on all of my door hinges too.

And thanks for the tip on "hi temp" automotive paint. Didn't think about factoring the temp into what paint I was going to use :)

Vtec92civic is right on the money about both circumstances. As for the hinges, Eastwood Co. sells a rust encapsulator/converter (in spray cans as well as pints) that should work well. Unfortunatley, that area is going to be exposes to moisture, grease (hinge), so stopping the rust should be the first priority. In reference to the radiator, scuff the surface witha scotch pad, prime and use the high temp paint
