Yikes :soscared: , what BMW335i and BigJimZ28 said........that is clearcoat failure and the only real fix is a repaint. You can try a glaze and a wax, and it might make it look a little better.

thanks guys also if i start garaging the car do u feel it will slow it down ??
It should help, but where the clearcote is gone/failing you'll need to keep a good heavy wax or sealer on it to help slow the UV damage when it is is the sun.

also hand wax should be in a back and forth motion. and not a circular.?
It doesn't really matter...... just get it worked into the paint as well as you can. You might want to try a glaze like Meg's #7 and then top it with a durable wax. All of the oils in #7 might help it look better for a while. That's just a guess on my part, I've never messed with CC failure that bad before.

Is is a good guess to say that this car has not been waxed for most of it's lifetime?

But yea, basically you will either have to get a repaint, or you will have to protect with a strong and durable wax to prevent further damage.

I didn't have a paying customer this last weekend so I called a buddy of mine and told him to bring his '91 Mitsubishi POS truck over to put a shine on it. The clear on his hood has gone away in a few spots. So I polished the whole truck and came back to the hood. I asked him how worried he was about the hood. He said he wanted all that flaiky stuff off of there. So I took a plastic scraper and scraped all the "dead" CC off and hit in again with Mothers Power Polish and a yellow LC pad.

There's still a faint outline of the CC and I am sure it will get worse as time goes by but it looks OK for now. I will post pics when I get home tonight. The whole thing was more of a practice session then anything esle. NOT something I would do to a paying customers car at all!!:LOLOL
