paint overspray

how far can this stuff travel to work it's way on your car? i have a garage, but all the apt complexes in this area are getting painted and i have to drive by them. i'm just wondering approx. how many feet paint overspray can travel, cause i don't want to have to reclay my car to get the stuff off!

That fine spray of paint can travel with the wind. I guess the distance travelled depends on the wind speed and how open the area is. Isn't there any way around that area? I would take a +15min detour if I had to.

no, once you go into the gated apartments, you are in the complex, where the painting is.

i would think paint overspray would dry mighty quickly once it started travelling with the air, and would thus not be able to attach itself to a car at that point. is that wrong?

still though, wouldn't claying the car cure the problem if i had to take that route? or does paint overspray do more damage to car paint that clay cannot fix?

Even once it's "dry", it's probably still sticky.

I wasn't able to remove some overspray from my uncle's truck a couple weeks ago. I tried clay, APC, 303 Cleaner, and PB's Trim Restorer with no luck. The Mr Clean Magic Eraser worked OK after a lot of scrubbing, but my uncle decided that he could do that part on his own. It may be easier to remove the overspray from paint rather than the textured plastic that I was working with.

Meg's sells overspray clay, so I'd pick up some of that if you get spray on the car and washing and regular clay doesn't take care of it.

My neighbor spray painted a cabinet in his garage/driveway, cars where covered with the stuff as far as 3 doors down. I clayed my wife's car right away, the quicker you get to it, the easier it comes off. Remember, it doesn't just get on the paint, you have windows, wipers, trim, etc and it's not just like claying for dirt, it's serious claying. If you can avoid it, walk a few blocks, I recommend that.

We see overspray issues all the time here at work. Generally, overspray can travel a good hundred feet and still stick nicely to a vehicle.
