Paint codes...

Why can't the auto manufactures simplify their paint codes by actually telling you what the color and code is, ala BMW? :xyxthumbs

The only extra cost is a damn sticker, for crying out loud! :nixweiss

Most mfrs. do put that info on the car. I'm mostly a GM man, and it is on a metal tag under the hood (at least the vintage of cars I have), which can sometimes be hard to notice, because it's painted over. My ex-gf who went to get some Hyundai touch-up paint said it was on a driver's door sticker.

For the amount of money one pays for a vehicle these days, putting the paint name and code on a separate tag that costs maybe all of a few cents to print and produce isn't a lot to ask for.

A client of mine has a topaz blue BMW Z3. The tag is on the left strut tower in the engine compartment... easy to find, easy to read (even in German!) Getting the touch up paint for his vehicle is easy.

GM's tag has all of the options the vehicle has imprinted on the tag. ..you have to decipher the damn thing to find out what the color code is.

My F-150 has the code for the color on the door pillar... at least you don't have to look for it.

Speaking for my GM cars, the paint tag is under the hood, it's metal, it's riveted to the inside of a front fender. The option code listing you're talking about is different, but it has the paint color code listed as "PRM CLR" (primary color){reading that off the computer printout from under the trunk mat, called the "Summary Build Document"...this car is a 1990}.
