Pad Problems

Either I'm washing my pads wrong or the pads are not of good quality. 2 of my Meguiars pads and 3 of my Propel pads have the backing coming off. I wash them by hand with dawn and simple green. I dont let them soak. I have never washed them in a washing machine either. I dont use them that much, maybe once a month and they're plus/minus 1 year old.

Any suggestions.

I know CMA says not to use Dawn as it will seperate the velcro backing from the pad. Glue 'em back down and use another cleaning solution. APC, woolite, etc.

Can they be reglued and what kind of glue.

as for Megs Pad it states do not wash the pads again most will hand wash it or machine wash but at your own risk...

i would go to an arts and crafts store and look for some spay adhesive or adhesive which is like butter consistence so you can spread it easy .....

for example a Michaels and ask an associate there....

I've never had to use any (yet), but TOL sells a can of Polisher Pad Adhesive:

"Polisher Pad Adhesive: A one-of-a kind adhesive. Spraway's Foam & Fabric Adhesive bonds fabric, carpet or ®Velcro, to foam. It's great for headliners, loose carpet, and velcro backed polisher pads."

I also have both Meg's and Propel pads and have washed them with stuff like Dawn or Snappy Pad Cleaner after soaking them in car wash soap. Maybe I've been lucky, but I haven't had a velcro failure yet. I wonder if Simple Green might be too harsh?

I have used Simple Green on my LC pads every time Ive cleaned them without issue. I don't know if the Megs pads would react differently but so far I haven't had any problems with mine.

I would stay away from trying to epoxy pads unless it says its safe on foam. A lot of epoxies will dissolve items like paper cups, etc...

Elmer's Spray Adhesive would be my first shot at fixing a de-velcroed pad.

I've machine washed my pads(not Meguires) and have never seen a problem. I wouldn't try glueing it, it might not re-center and cause problems.

I would do something different. Contact the places you bought them from and see if they'll replace the pads. I've had a couple of pads delaminate and the stores that I've bought them from have always happily sent me a replacement pad.

This being said, I would still try to figure out what's causing it.

Thats nothing.

When i bought my DAS PC kit i used the cutting pad on 1 fender. Then i washed it with dawn and set it up on its side to dry for a day. The next day half the backing fell off. I got 1 fenders use out of it.

At least yours lasted a year and probably got way more use out of it than 1 fender.

I wanna glue it back on but am not sure what i could use. It would have to be some strong adhesive. Whats does Sonus use to adhere them to begin with? or any of these company's?
