Overwhelmed!

I'm looking for some help but the more I read, the more confused I get. I can't be the only one out here so hopefully someone will have pity on me and help out.

I have 2 new cars and I want to get the paint protected while it still looks good. Both are 2004 vehicles, less than six months old, so they still look new. I have a silver Honda Odyssey and a smoke (dark gray) Nissan Titan. They're both large vehicles (3 kids, boat, no choice) so I'm thinking about going with the PC buffer to cut down on the time. Of course this just adds to the confusion - which pads to use?!?!

Can anyone help advise me on the best products and pads for the best and quickest way to protect the paint and get a great shine? I know best and quickest are mutually exclusive terms but I don't want to wait 24 hours for products to cure like the Klasse ones. Money is an object, by the way.

Thanks in advance.

Senna1,

Welcome to DC

My recomendation would be to start With Getting a PC... I recently bought the new Advanced 7.5in high Gloss Pads from PAC...They are great!

welcome to DC senna1

A PC would be an excellent investment, I'd contact Dwayne at premiumautocare.com & tell him you're a DC member so you get the 10% discount and you'll also get free shipping for orders over $125.00.

He can also recommend on pads & products.

With both vehicles being relatively new, I'd suggest claying the cars to remove shipping & dealer-provided contaminants. NXT car wash would be a good choice available locally at Autozone, Wal-Mart, etc ....

Drying with 100% cotton is OK but try using a waffle weave towel & you'll never go back to cotton ... absorbant .. lint free.

Perhaps a light polishing product like Poorboy's SSR1 followed by EX-P or UPP (4-star Ultimate Paint Protection) if you want to go with a polymer sealant. Or you could use Poorboy's PWC (polish with carnauba) followed by a carnauba wax like Poorboy's Natty, s100, p21s, or Clearkote Moose Wax.

Some people here have had good results with NXT followed by a carnauba wax topper .... there's as many good solutions as there are combinations of products.

You can use micro fiber towels to remove all these products, they're soft, lint free and will not mar the surface.

There's a list of acronym's used here: http://www.detailcity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6103

These are just some random thoughts, talk to Dwayne or email him & he can give you some excellent suggestions.

Greetings and :welcome to the DC! Pick yourself up a bottle of Poorboys PwC (Polish with Carnuba) and you'll be set for life. You can apply this product by hand or PC . Pick up a few Microfiber towels and your good to go . $20-25 dollars how's that for budget car care :bigups Good luck

I'd suggest going to one of the sponsor sites (see main page of detail city), and giving them a call. Let them know your needs, budget, etc..

I'd focus on getting 2 things to make it simple.

1) Buy a Porter Cable polisher, model 7424.
2) Look at some of the car care kits that are out there. Many include everything you need (wash, clay, polish, seal, wax, etc...). I really like the Menzerna, and Four Start Kits, but there are many good choices.

Oh, forgot to say "welcome to DC". I'll warn you, that this can lead to significant OCD flare up's!

Regarding my post above.... the folks that sponsor this site and really, really helpful, and they're all very nice folks. Don't worry (or be intimidated) that you're not a professional detailer and don't know all of the lingo. These folks are down to earth and can help the novice as well as the advanced professional.

Welcome to DC

The PC will be your friend big time. What others have said here about calling Dwayne and he can walk you threw the products and pads will be a great time saver. Also you might want to call on Steve at Poorboys his products are great easy to use and at a real good price since that is an issue as well.

Don't fell overwhelmed you will see that its really not that hard to get great results and to protect your investment
