Overspray!

My wifes 300 got bumped in the front fender which was fixed and repainted. The repair is great, however they got overspray on the rest of the car! My wife said take it back but there is no way I'll let the body shop take care of this. What really upsets me is I just finished her winter detail a week before.

My process will be a good wash with Eagle 1, followed by a complete claying. I shouldn't need to polish the paint so I'll go right to the sealant, Collinite fleetwax with a topping of AW. However I'll need to repolish the windows and apply Coolinite to the sides and back, with Clear Vision on the windshield.

What is the reccomended time for outgassing on the new paint? They told me "3 to 4 months, but with winter coming 2 months should be enough".

Here's what most folks here consider the definitive post on the subject.

Your shop has the right idea. There are a couple sealants that claim to be safe sooner. There's one post in the above thread where someone says Zaino claims it's safe to use his products within 1 week. I contacted Finish Kare earlier this year and they claim their 2180 sealant is safe within about 3 or 4 days, that the paint can outgas right through the sealant, sort of a "goretex for paint".

What you're safe with for sure is glazes such as Mequiar's #5 New Car Glaze. RMG is also supposed to be safe.

Because you just recently detailed it, hopefully you'll have an easier time removing the overspray. I imagine that the overpray is on everything exept the painted panels? If so, then you shouldn't worry about waxing the fresly painted panels then?

Ok, so then if I wait 90 days, which will be mid December, how will the elements effect the paint, (snow, salt, mud, etc?)

I'min sort of the same bind as you, my car is due out of the body shop this week. I asked for it to be painted with Sikkens this time and after a month or maybe two I'll give it a couple coats of FK1 2180. In the meantime, glazes can offer some minimal level of protection.
