Orbital vs. Elbow Grease

Call me a wimp, because I continuously talk myself out of going electric with my polishing. I’ve been doing it by hand since I started over four years ago and it seems to work just fine. But nearly every other detailer uses orbital polishers.

I figure I’m probably missing out.

If anyone has the time, would you mind giving me a little insight into the pros and cons, advantages or potential problems in switching from hand to machine?

Thanks muchly!

Its like walking to a store that is 10 miles away vs driving. There is no reason to walk unless you can't afford to drive.

Scottwax was doing great by hand, and as a pro he was really getting a lot of work done. Then I sent him one of my polishers to try out....end of doing it by hand.

You'll not only get the work done faster and easier, but I'm quite confident that you'll get visibly better results. Much better.

Oh, and Welcome to Autopia!

Thanks! Any thoughts on the brand? Since I've only ever polished by hand, it would probably be safest to get a Dual Action polisher. As far as I can tell, the best three to choose from are the Porter Cable, Meguairs, Flex, and Shurhold, but they're all so expensive. Is there a less costly choice? Or, if not, can you reccomend which of those is the best pick?

pinklemonade- I'd go with the Griot's Garage 6" Random Orbital. Pricey perhaps, but lifetime warranty and great performance.
