Orange peel question

Is it normal on some cheaper japanese cars like a subaru or toyota to have a a different orange peel patern on the bumpers compared to the metal? Not different to the point where its an eye sore, but if you look close enough you can tell.

unfortunately, it's normal on some more expensive cars too. I'm sure how the clear is sprayed on the different base substrate has a lot to do with it.

Its just that i keep comparing the front and rear bumpers and they both look a little different. But the rear bumper looks different more with the orange peel. Someone also told me that it looked painted, that annoyed me. But i know its the original bumper 100 percent, I took it off and found evidence that its factory. Other plastic trims look different too. Maybe a bad spray? Its been bugging me out.

Any Orange Peel look is from the paint being sprayed on "dry" vs "wet", on a perfectly smooth, even surface..
I dont know how many manufacturers use robots to paint the vehicle but again, someone is adjusting the machine to duplicate the finish a zillion times a year.
Believe as the manufacturers have had to do more to cut down on emissions, and certainly cut down on costs, you may see more of this on some marques..

To directly answer your question, I dont know why it would be a "lot" different than the rest of the vehicle, especially the pattern, - Unless - the vehicle was hit or something in the transportation to the Dealership and they had to repair it. and didnt look at the match afterwards..

Can you go back there and look at another vehicle like this one and see if this different pattern runs through all their vehicles ?? That would help you decide what you want to do, especially if this is a new car sale and you are not happy...
Good luck..

Its not extremely different just slight. Im ocd haha. My girlfriend has a subaru like me. Almost same year, same color and some of her plastic parts are like that too, slightly different. Ocd kicking in i think. For example her front bumper looks tacky, kindy like my rear does. I think im looking to close

Bumper covers are typically painted separate from the rest of the vehicle. This causes inconsistencies with the overall finish as well as slight variation on the color. You will find this on a lot of cars.

only way to fix it would be to respray the entire car bumpers and all, at the same time, using paint mixed from one container on the whole car.

Very correct..And in many cases not painted by the car manufacturer, but by the vendor that supplies the bumpers.

Seems like some cars with better paint make it look better than say my subaru. But they say the paint on my car is really bad anyways

Then I assume higher end cars have their bumper covers painted in house or on the car..
I have never seen any German car for example, have mis matching bumper covers, etc...

Did you get a chance to back to see if any of the same new cars on the lot have what you have ??

This is true. I had an 06 BMW 330Ci Conv in Monaco Blue metallic that had visible peel if you got within 12-15 inches.

I know that all the cars have peel, mines pretty bad. What im saying is that the pieces that are painted seperately, plastic bumpers, trim pieces. Are they expected to have a slightly different peel pattern. I believe someone answered this already.

The few Subaru vehicles I have Detailed all had great paint.. Never saw any inconsistencies..

All over the subaru forums is nothing but people complaining about the terrible paint on these cars and how prone they are to chips and what not. Theres no inconsistencies on the metal parts of the car some trim pieces look a little different, the bumper looks a tad bit different. But not anything wild and thats a dead pin out. One person did say something to me once but not sure how educated they are in the field of paint on cars. I think the economy shortcuts taken on cars today is driving me a little crazy. And i have deffientely seen a bmw with a bumper cover that looks a little different. Im driving myself crazy haha. I should switch careers to quality control in a mass production factory :)
