Orange Orbital Pad

Beemerboy

Just One More Coat
Can anyone tell what this one is for, I got one for free with no markings tell what its used for. Its fairly hard but soft so I'm guessing that its a polishing pad

Sounds like the CMA orange "power pad". Supposed to have the cutting ability of a foam cutting pad but leave a finish like a softer polishing pad. I tried em, didn't like the shape of the pad at all. It's concave in shape and only te outer edges of the pad contact the finish unless you bear down with a good amount of pressure.

I purchased two to try, used em' once and sold em at Autopia. It is basically this pad;

Thanks

I did read up about it after I posted this. For single stage paint to take oxadation off that would be better in some cases than a wool pad, just a thought

Hi Beemer!

Actually, the power pad at CM is only sold by them, supposedly. Other orange pads are not the same. I have one and I like it quite well. In fact, it works as aggressive as a cutting pad but with the finishing power of a polishing pad. It really is a fantastic product, in my humble opinion. I find it saves time switching pads and so forth. Just my $.02

Just how much pressure do you need to use? I just bought two 6-inch pads from CMA (1 yellow and 1 grey), both in the concave shape. I was thinking of getting some more of the 7.5-inch pads, so I would have two of everything. Those are concave in shape also. Are they hard to work with using the PC 7424? Or does the weight of the machine itself almost flatten the pad out? Are Meg's pads flat? Just looking to get the right pads before buffing (if it ever stops raining here!)

Thanks,
Neil

Monte....actually I'm pretty sure those Das Polster orange pads are in fact the exact same pad as CMA's "Power Pad". CMA just uses the term Power Pad and 4-Star obviously had to use something different. Problem is once 4-Star is out of those orange pads I don't think they'll be able to re-order. Seems a large national detailing supply managed to arrange an exclusive on the foam. At least thats what a little birdie told me.

Yep..the orange foam is another one of those things that people either love or don't care for....no inbetween.

Rockford.....hard to gauge how much pressure it takes....you'll need to find that out on your own. The reason the concave shape is an issue for me is because of the consistency of the orange foam...it simply doesn't compress the way standard foam pads do. So more pressure is needed for full contact than on any other foam I've used.

The 7.5 " vc pads are among my favorites. Consider this....put a 6" backing plate on the PC and a 6" backing plate on the rotary and buy one type/size of pad for both. I've used those pads on both PC and rotary and they work very well although I do like the extra cut level choices that the Edge pads have.

If my Meg's pads (which are flat) ever wear out I'll most likely end up buying all new 7.5" vc pads with a few 8"-9" pads for the rotary alone.
