Optimum Finish Polish

Hi all. Just wondering if any of you fine people have ever used it. What your thoughts about it are? Worth trying it? What pads you like with it? Thanks Joe

Since you already thanked me for my response I fill obligated to respond(my name is Joe too :D) I use hyper polish when I'm going to put Opti Coat on a car because it saves the IPA wipe down. That being said it works really well as finishing polish on soft foam, or a 1 step on a harder foam. I prefer to use it with yellow rupes foam if I'm using it as a 1 step cut is decent maybe little less than 205 or BF finishing polish, if I'm finishing with it I use on white rupes foam, or LC black/red gloss is good enough. Using it inside is no problem but it will make you hate life trying to use it out in the sun. A little goes a really long way. Because of its consistency while learning the product I felt like I needed to use more but found this causes it to become really hard to wipe up after. The working time is almost infinity but you'll noticed your pad will get loaded and you will lose almost all the cut and I think start doing more harm than good if you over work it. Me personally I use it all the time just because I coat so many cars. Hope that helps@!

+1 with all Joe T. said above...

Optimum Hyper-Polish is really great to use; is not messy, dusty, sticky, etc..
It finishes really clear, slick, and glossy for me always..

And as Joe said above, it will keep working until you stop..

It works really good on many paint manufacturers products, and is always predictable.
It is NOT going to correct as good as their Compound or any other Compound..

But, on some corrections, it may be all you need..
Especially if you use Rotary Power like I do..

To comment on Optimum Finish, rather than Hyper Polish which I have not used, I found that I did not like Finish Polish. I used it after I used Polish II, and just found that it did not have the best finish, and it left some micro marring when I used a zero cut finishing pad. Now, I was using it on very soft paint but I found that Menzerna finishing polishes finished better for me.

Another thing is Finish is SMAT, rather than DAT, so it's up to your personal preference which technology you prefer. For SMAT, I usually reach for Meguiar's polishes, since they invented the SMAT polish. I have heard good things, which are echoed by the two above, about Hyper Polish, but my experiences with Finish would lead me to not use it again. If you're following up with a Opti-Coat, then Hyper Polish is the recommended polish for coating prep.

As for the pads, you can use a wide range from a polishing pad to a finishing pad, depending on the cut you want and the finish out. Also, clear hardness would come into play in determining the pad. I've had good luck with Menzerna polishes, heard great things about BlackFire and Wolfgang (which is pretty much Menzerna, just a couple things added, I think) and others, but I know I would be hard pressed to reach for Optimum polishes again, save for applying Opti-Coat and wanting to be sure about bonding.

Hope this helps and happy detailing!

I use Optimum Finish all the time. Its a great ultra fine SMAT polish. It seems "polymer heavy" to me, which to me means, it doesn't gum up pads.

Use very sparingly, or wipe off can be a bit more difficult than others.

Did they actually invent it or the first one to successfully market it mainstream?

Great question...

I remember a company called System 1 was promoting the benefits of non-diminishing abrasives before Meguiar's came to market.

Ultimately, it REALLY is marketing terms..

Thanks all. Evey comment helped.
Meticulous, the Camaro looked great!
JoeySmooth a big help. I am outside tho and am going to buy the Hyper compound and polish. It is cheap enough to get at the autopia store so I will put it in when I order the other product. No Rupes yet so I will get the LC pads.
Stokdgs. Rotary Power. Can't get away from it. Need it on the semi's I do.
Rad. Not sure what SMAT is. Going to look that up now.
Thanks again! God Bless! :autopia:

I apologize. I really don't like writing facts unless I know they are 100%. Too much misinformation on the Internet and I don't like being apart of it.

I thought I saw a video on YouTube Autogeek channel or read a thread that stated it. In fact, I thought it was a Meguiar's person stating it when they were introducing the their microfiber pad system, saying something like they're revolutionizing the industry like they did previously with SMAT technology. Maybe I misinterpreted their statements, but I could have sworn I heard it from reliable sources, both in videos and writing. But, apparently I'm wrong and glad the record was righted.

As Todd said, it's marketing, and I, as many, have fell for it. This time, at least... :rockon
