Optimum car wax

I was reading about the difference between synthetic and carnauba waxes and found out that carnauba waxes form a physical barrier against the elements as apposed to a synthetic wax forming a molecular bond with the paint. Since OCW is a synthetic wax will it still offer the same protection as a carnauba wax? Should I put a coat of OCW then a carnauba wax or will the OCW be good? Also what is the difference between a paint sealant and a wax? do I need both? This will be my first detail and I don't know if my car has wax on it or not so what would be a good product to strip/clean the paint before claying/waxing? Thanks in advance

I like to use OCW as a topper over a dedicated sealant or after a wash. I don't think I've ever topped it though? I've never found it to last super long either.

Unless you waxed/sealed your car in the last 30 days, I wouldn't worry about anything that is still on the surface interferring with your new protectant. If you want to make sure either use a dedicated surface cleaner like Auto Int ABC wash or even a strong mix of Dawn/APC. Also, keep in mind that pretty much most clay is abrasive and *can* mar your finish. So, light polishing might need to be performed after. What kind of clay are you using?

I'd suggest putting OCW over a durable sealant. While OCW can and does offer protection, it is best use in conjunction with a good sealant or durable wax. OCW isn't very picky on what you put it on top of, so don't worry about picking a a base to suit it. Duragloss 105, FK1000P, or Collinite would be good bases.
