opti bond tire gel

PA DETAILER

DETAILED TODAY?

After reading a lot of yeas/neas on this tire gel, I broke it out this afternoon to see for myself. I used the carrand tire gel brush to apply. Really no drama. I loved the finish it left with ONE coat. Very even and just the right amount of gloss. Only negative i found (compared to DP gel) is i noticed it took more product it seemed than DP to coat the tire. The clear opti bond bottle could be tricking me into thinking that tho? I love the DP tire gel. But the opti coat was a big winner in my book. I think i like the look of the opti coat better. And being water based, seemed less greasy on the tire and brush. :bigups

You did a beautiful job of cleaning, applying, insuring it was perfect and then taking a spot on picture !!! I love it !!
Thanks for sharing !

nice. I am one of those people who likes the look of optibond, just straight up.

I like black onyx better but OB is my go to for normal jobs

I would agree with both of the these sediments, although I am partial to BLACKFIRE (who would have thought!)

I dont know. No problems so far. Had a good rain since saturdays detail. Drove in it. Checked the tires today. They still have a decent gloss to them.....

UPDATE.
I have no problems at all with this tire dressing! This and the carrand tire dressing brush = perfect tires. Had some rain this week. The shine held up. Again, if you detail every week, i see no issues. NO SLING. And i did notice this morning, it took LESS product since the tires were treated once with it. One bead on the brush per tire. LOVE THIS TIRE DRESSING.

I was using carpro perl (good stuff) and ran out so I wanted to try Optimum tire gel and Duragloss 253; their all good but I find optimum being a gel is way easier to apply without running.

how do you apply it on the brush? are you spraying or just pouring it on the applicator. I like the Opti bond initially but not so impressed anymore. For me it goes on nice and easy initially and looks great but the next day after sitting it looks spotty to me. So I always have to apply another coat. Maybe I should spray it directly on the tires to cover better? I dont know. But I have tried to love this product.

Dear atlantarange

I empathize with you, but I learned to love Opti-Bond. I guess the first coat needs time to really soak into the rubber. My first time using it went just like you described, but afterward I put on a heavy coat, let the vehicle sit for a day or two, and wiped off the excess immediately before driving the vehicle. Once the dressing got soaked into the rubber well, it lasted for a long time, and subsequent applications were easier and produced lasting results.

I'm a big Opti-Bond fan, but I prefer Blackfire Total Eclipse Tire Gel. It's similar to Opti-Bond, but it seems to darken my tires a bit better and last even longer. I have some of this you can try if you'll drive up to Buford.

Regarding using a brush, you can blot a bit of the dressing directly on the end of the brush, or you can be wild and crazy, like I do, and blot the dressing straight on the sidewall from the bottle and then smooth it in with a brush or other applicator.

You want very, very clean tires before applying any dressing. Use Amazing Rolloff, Zep 505, Tuf Shine tire cleaner, or undiluted Optimum Power Clean to get the faces of those tires perfectly clean. Roshan (ihaveacamaro) heartily recommends Meguiar's D101.

You might also try Mike Phillips's method for cleaning tires, which involves using a gray Cyclo brush attached to a DA polisher. That's what I did yesterday in preparation for applying Tuf Shine today.

I'm waiting for the first application of Tuf Shine to dry as I write this.

Dear Friends

I detailed my mother's car in late December, cleaning her tires a total of five times with a Mother's tire brush and Zep 505. I applied a very heavy coat of Opti-Bond and the car sat two to three days afterward while I finished polishing, sealing, and waxing. I wiped off the excess before driving it back to her house.

Of course the recent pollen covered those tires and the rest of her car, and a brief rain shower made her whole car look nasty.

Her car hasn't been touched since December. It stays garaged and is driven just once or twice a week very short distances.

Today I rinsed her car with a pressure washer and then did a rinseless wash with Blackfire Rinseless Wash. I wiped her tires and wheels with rinseless wash, too, and that's all I used.

After being wiped down with rinseless wash her tires still looked dressed. That's almost five months.

Opti-Bond is good stuff.

I tried a varation today with opti-bond. I mixed it 1:1 in a spray bottle and sprayed it on the tires. DID NOT LIKE THIS AT ALL. Too thick really, and used a lot of product. It has to be spread out. I used a old mf towel. It did leave great looking tires, but i will go back to undiluted and the carrand tire dressing brush. THIS I LOVE!
