Last week I received a call from the "5-star" director at the dealer where I bought my Dakota. She was doign a noral follow up and wanted to know how I liked the truck, etc...Well, in a very polite way I shared with ehr that my buying experince was ugly at best but that is behind us now however I was still somewhat upset about the condition of the paint (swirls and holograms) and explained to her what they were and what caused them....I did tell ehr that i am overly anal baout the appreance of my vehicles as my tradeed in Jeep could attest to...anyway...she told me that they wanted me to be 100% satisfied and offered to look into having the truck brought up to my standards. I thanked her and told her (very respectfully) that based on what I saw there was no one in their detail dep capable of coming close but if they would have an outside vendor who was experinced do it I would be a very happy customer.

Currentyl, truck has AIO/SG/#16 all applied by hand and you can still see evidence of light swirls but bad holograms.

Question is this:

Am I better off having the dealer just leave it alone and have a true autopian buff it out for me or shoudl I take them up on the offer and let them try then reapply AIO/SG/#16?

Thanks

I agree with Black Regal - Cut your losses.

I got a new truck a few months back direct from the factory. I demanded, begged, pleaded to get AS IS off the truck. Plastic still on etc.

Mongo was not pleased that he could not take his rotary to it. He wanted so much to use that 2 week old wool pad that had been kicking around the shop.

That is kinda what I am thinking as well...and trust me, if I could have bought this thing and had them not touch it I would have, unfortunatley the dmaage had been done and I stupidly took delivery at night...had it been during daylight hours I would not have accepted it and asked for another truck.

The other "challenge" I am havign is that there are two samll dents on the roof...granted you cannot see them unless you are standing in the bed but I know they are there and it annoys me, lol...If they can be fixed using PDR I will have them fixed but if they have to oaint I am going to live with it

IT can't get any more simple DON'T let anyone touch your vehicle unless you completely trust them or your at there place of business so you may see there work in front of you,No second chances

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!

The "lot lizards" messed it up once... why give them a second opportunity?

If the dealership wants to make it up to you... ask them to give you free oil changes, new mats, or something other than having them ruin your paintwork again.

There is not a single dealership that I would trust to detail my car.

They want to make you happy, so ask for something small that you need/want.

Hey, Gonzo is that as in mark "gonzo" Gonzalas ? the skater? how did you get flameboy up there?

Huh? I have no idea who you are talking about.

I have a good friend who does PDR and he does hail damage on roofs all the time. He will either drop the headliner and go in or if that looks real hard he has a pulling device that gets hot glued to the ding. Squeeze the trigger and pop up comes the roof. He then proceeds to tap it down with his nylon pin. I know this sounds harsh but when he is done, and he decides that, you will never know. I have seen him do it many times. It looks and is simple but takes lots of skill.

Never, ever, ever, ever let ANY dealership EVER touch the paint of your car.

Buy a new one? Get the plastic kept on from the truck, and if they take it off, demand a new one.

Take it in for service? Make sure the service advisor KNOWS not to wash/vac, and leave a sign in your car to say just that. I did it this morning with my SILVER!! svt focus.

Problem is,

1) Lack of proper education.

2) Its a cesspool of people who aren't smart.

3) Lack of proper products.

4) Lack of caring.

5) Lack of hourly wage.

6) Pressure from management to get a COMPLETE cleanup done in an hour.

Take the truck to an autopian.

I was never going to let the dealer detailers touch it...I had asked the dealer to have an outside vendor come in and fix and they said they would however I have since asked them not to bother and told them I would pay to have it doen myself and asked if they could credit me with LOF's for at least part of the expense...I think they are going to do it...Thanks for the opionions...you guys pretyy much told me what I already knew :)

It's Mark "Gonz" Gonzales, not "Gonzo". But nice blast from the past. Here's the one I had; probably 1987.

Oh yeah, and to make my post on-topic, once bitten, twice shy. Don't let them touch it again. There's no reason to believe anything will be any different.
