ONR on Black

I have a black Infiniti M35X and I have not been able to wash it b/c the temperature was well below freezing. If I used ONR am I asking for trouble (read swirls/micromarring) if I use ONR with a Lambs wool or MF Mit or GS.



Willing to buy what I have to in order to get it right. I actually thought about calling a shop for a professional wash. Can someone tell me what I might expect to pay (on Long Island, NY) for an exterior wash, 2 bucket method with no marring?



I know it sounds crazy, but I don't trust anyone to wash my car. You'd think it was an exotic car. I just spent so much time painstakingly removing 95% of the swirls and marring I would be upset to take a step back.



I stopped correcting at 95% b/c it was getting cold and I wanted to pack on protection for the winter. Will pick up where I left off in the spring. Its a daily driver so I do not know if i will ever be able to maintan the 100% swirl free show car look I love.



I heard it hear and it rings true, Black is not a color, it's a part time job!

ONR=Optimum No Rinse, rinseless car wash. Great product.



I pretty much use it exclusively. Here's a before and after on my black Porsche. While the car wasn't that dirty, it does show that you can safely use it on black for a significant % of your washing needs.



I'm sure you'll get lots of replies with similar endorsements.

What I do is run it through a coin op to remove a lot of the caked on junk, takes just a few minutes and make ONR *much* safer, IMO. I use the coin-op's soap, I know a lot reccommend against it, but (IME) with the coin-op I frequent, the soap isn't all *that* bad. High pressure soap, then rinse.



Then, I come home, park the car in the garage (obviously close the door), turn a few space heaters on, and in 15 minutes it is a comfortable 40F or so. Using this method, I don't seem to get any more marring than a careful conventional wash. :bigups



I use two buckets (ultra-plush Vroom MF), a grit guard in the rinse one, and about 3 gallons and 3 cap fulls of ONR in the soap bucket. I also spray the panels down with a (very) concentrated ONR mix (10:1), just to provide some extra lube.

Pretty much what I do too when the cars are extra dirty. it's just a great product.



Not sure about availability in the UK. Perhaps these guys might be able to help?

08 Black Yukon Denali and use ONR all the time on it. Swirl free still and makes life easier in the winter using ONR to wash.

Nice C2S Landcruiser! I do the same with my C2S when time and weather do not permit washing. Only problem is Porsche paint is very soft and very easy to scratch. View it at night under HPS or other lights and you'll see marring.



Still, ONR works very well regardless. I've also used 1Z PERLS wash as an ONR substitute and it seems to work better. There is a thread on the forum regarding this very thing.

I ONR all the time on my Black Benz . I use a Lambs wool mitt. If extra dirt just pre treat with a batch of ONR mixed up in a chemical sprayer which I like to use to clen my wells ,tires and wheels.

Deanski-What's your technique with the Perls? At this point, I pretty much go by the 5 foot rule with this soft paint--if it looks good at 5 feet, it's good enough. I like driving too much to really, really obsess over some minor spider webbing. In fact, I'm polishing it now for the first time in about 15 months. I was able to remove the spider webbing with Menz 106FA via Metabo rotary and LC white pad. Went over it with a blue LC pad and 85RD and it looks pretty much perfect. I've got some chips and a few deeper scratches, but by and large it looks pretty stunning.



Trying to keep this soft paint perfect will make you crazy:waxing:
