Ok, Sonus Perfect Shine Kit... Awesome, but how do you use it all/steps to waxing?

Ok, hello guys, I been reading all the guides, everything, staring at the shop, etc. It's just amazing all the stuff done to preserve the paint and make your cars top notch.

I want in! I want to make my car's exterior look just as good as it's interior. I might just purchase the Sonus Perfect Shine Kit plus a few other things to go along with it like the OXO Mini car duster to start me off on all this. I just recently turned 18, and I want to learn how to become a great detailer for personal use, and to keep my car in pristine condition.

The thing is... I look at all the stuff in the Sonus kit and some of them confuse me on when to be used and some look like the same product for a bit of a different application. The two main things are the Klasse AIO and the P21S Wax, are both of these used one after the other? Or is the P21S used after a wash and then you use the AIO?

I guess just reading so many acronyms and seeing all these different detailers/waxes/polishes is just confusing me like crazy. Mainly the IPA, when is this performed? Like... After washing the car to remove any wax that was previously on there? Or is it done after waxing? That confuses me too.

All I know is that there are swirls that annoy me which I would just LOVE to see gone. However, I really want to take the cleaning and stuff into my own hands. I want to do it all myself. It's just the order is confusing me. That's all.

So could anyone just put in number/bullet form, doesn't have to be explanatory, just list from beginning to end on the steps of how you would wash your car, or better yet, wash and detail a car that you just bought off someone.

Here's the pic of the car I want to able to use a OXO mini duster on and QD it every day. :bow

Thanks, and I appreciate your guy's help.

Hey Rento,

First off, Welcome to Autopia. I am going to help you out a bit on this one, because it can be confusing with all th acronyms getting thrown around. The process however is pretty simple and I will map it out for you here generically and using the Sonus package you brought. I assuming that you have read the guys about polishing and removing swirls. The advice given is very important so that you do not cause any damage to the paint. Also if you do not have a UDM or PC, I would make the investment now. Some paint corrections are hard to do without these machines.

  • Evaluate your Paint

Take a walk around your Vehicle and note areas that have stains, Scratches, swirls, ect.

  • Wash - Use Dawn Dish washing liquid for this step only. After applying the wax then us a car wash shampoo (Mothers car Wash or Meguiars Gold Class car Wash available at auto part chains and Target or Walmart).

  • Clay - (Use the Glyde as a Clay Lube)

  • Wash again, IPA Wipedown, or Quick Detailer Wipe down

  • Polish (Paint Correction - Deep) - Will need a UDM or PC for some corrections (Sonus Restore - Be careful this is aggressive stuff!)

  • Polish (Polish or Glaze) - (Sonus Enhance)

  • IPA Wipedown or Quick Detailier - (Detailing Spritz)

  • Seal or Wax or AIO (Klause AIO)

  • 2nd Coat for just Carnauba WAX, Wax Topper for Sealants (Optional) (P21S)

    Maintaining

  • Car Washing - Car Shampoos only!!!

  • Everyday Dusting - Car cannot be real dirty!! (OXO Duster)

  • Quick Detailers - Use for everyday detailing and removing of contaminants, and to enhance your gloss (Detailing Spritz) -

Here I just made a quick summary for you, that should work with almost any set of products. Of course I just covered the order of things here and not everything about detailing like the process of how to wash, ect. If you were reading through the boards and also the guides here, I think that you will find some more helpful info on how to perform the steps outlined above. Also, different people here will add or remove some processes for various reasons. If you have another question then let me know.

Awesome man, that's all I wanted to know!

Also about a UDM, I wouldn't know where to give it a test run, my father doesn't believe in those machines unless under the hands of a professional. So there goes trying it on his beater for a test run. My mother's car is white, so I wouldn't be able to tell very much. Moreover, i'll never test it on my Corrado until I know how to use it right.

Interesting stuff, I've actually red some of it before. Not sure if I should just jump straight into going full out on getting the best of the best stuff such as a UDM. I'll keep it in mind though as I've seen some CRAZY results with people who have used a UDM

Here's one of our Corrado forum moderators who recently used a UDM on his Corrado, the results are just BAMazing! Especially since he said it was pretty scratched up prior to using a UDM:
