OK...I'm a convert!...Zaino!

Statman

Go Buffs!
I have tried almost every top brand of waxes...P21S, Rejex, NXT, Meguiars, FK1, etc. I just did the full Zaino "thing" (inspired ny Virtigo). I am amazed. The depth of shine...awesome. I went for a ride and got bugs all over the front..they just wiped off. I am a true Zaino convert! Granted it took a fair amount of time ( let me know if you want my process). Here are some pics...better resolution on my link.

12. Applied Z-2 with PC
13. Spray Z-6, buff with MF
14. Applied Poorboys Wheel Sealer (with Mother's powerball)
15. Appled Zaino tire stuff (2 coats)
16. Aerospace 303 to exterior plastic and interior dash/doors
17. Lexol on seats
18. Window cleaner (I forget which kind)
19. Drive like a bat out of H*LL

Haha you deserve #19 out of all of that work. How did you like the Wheel sealant via the Powerball? I haven't tried the W/S yet, but it'll be in my next order, and applying it with the Powerball is something I haven't heard of yet.

It was the first time I used the powerball. Made it really easy to apply (anything) to those nasty HRE's.

Wow, nice car! I like Z on black paint a lot too. Z5/Z2 a very wet, reflective combo.

How do you like Z16 on the tires? I've heard mixed reviews.

Thanks...to be honest, I'm not real impressed...I did get some fling and the shine is so-so...I have not found the right tire stuff yet...I did just hear the Black Again is back though...my past favorite (stopped making it in '99 I think) Also going to try Meguiars new stuff (if my free sample ever gets here).

Have you tried Poorboys Natural Look or Bold N Bright? I think I've tried most every dressing on the market all and I always go back to the Poorboys dressings. They apply even, no sling AT ALL, and you can control the sheen by applying additional coats.

I also like Turbo Wax Tire Gel (but I do get some minor sling from it).

I do have the Poorboys...use the PB wheel sealant as well. I'll give it another shot. Thanks.

Well groebuck, that might qualify for a thread resurrection record...3 years, 2 months, and 23 days. :rofl

I think the Dawn wash is a component of the Zaino system. Intended to thoroughly clean the paint of any residues before beginning the application process. When practiced with restraint I guess it shouldn't present a problem to paint and or trim pieces. I don't use it personally, but have to admit that 30+ years ago I didn't think twice about using a liquid dish washing detergent to wash a vehicle. :)

Since it's up here on the front page - I'll stick my neck out and say that I don't see anything wrong with using Dawn as a wash every now and again. Just think how often you'd have to use Dawn as a wash to ever see any sort of damage to the rubber/plastic on a vehicle. I think it's another of those "detailing myths" that get passed around on these boards without any sort of backing in reality.

While I'm at it, I also don't like the Beatles nor do I like Elvis.

hmm well let me put it this way - they use it to wash raw petroleum off of sea birds and other animals in the gulf. Anything strong enough to do that - I don't want dripping through my car eating up parts and things that probably need to be greased! - let alone it is designed to break up and encapsulate oil - Dish washing detergent is a low level caustic - not designed for cars (pretty sure even the makers of dawn say don't use it on cars lol).

You're right - I think Dawn mentions it in some fine print somewhere that they don't recommend using it to wash cars regularly.

I'll retort by saying that I've never seen a vehicle that has Dawn-induced damage - neither in real-life, where I know people who use dish soap religiously, or on the internet forums where the "legend" is so fondly dredged up.

In the event I wanted to start from a fresh-slate - i.e. break up oil and/or old wax - I'd use Dawn without any reservation. I think we as "detailers" use a lot of other stuff that's probably more harmful than Dawn on paint - i.e. all purpose cleaners and spray degreasers, tar removers, mineral spirits, etc. I have seen proof that those items harmed rubber and plastic trim - either in photographs or in real-life situations. Yet, I still see people on this very forum who suggest those items for a variety of tasks on paint. Yet we harp on Dawn.... :)

And let's not forget the things we all use that are not "designed for cars," yet they work very well for what we need them to do. How would we get by as detailers without Q-tips, Magic Erasers, Woolite, etc. None of that was designed for use on cars (at least initially), yet I've used all of them and more with great results.

FAQ

Can I use Dawn to clean things other than dishes?
Dawn is so effective in cutting grease on dishes that over the years, consumers have used Dawn on other greasy messes around their homes, from cleaning kitchen messes like grease build up on the stove range hood to oily spots in the garage. Dawn is not recommended for window cleaning, car washing, body wash or washing hair.

I didn't put the not in bold, Dawn did. Of course they don't explain why it isn't recommended. I haven't had to degrease my car lately so can't say that I've used it for car washing in the last 10 years.

OH MY GOD MY WHEELS ARE GOING TO BE DISSOLVED.

I have a 18 year old Explorer and I have washed the alloy wheels since new with DAWN. :yikes:
I'm sure it will destroy them I will just have to give it a little more time
