Ok I bought a PC

Today I dropped by Lowes and bought a PC 7336. $105 out the door seemed like the best deal for me. I finished my day and before heading home decided to swing by a couple body shop supply places. My automagic rep is out for a few weeks and earliest I can get someone here would be next Tuesday. I had some time this evening so wanted to get some pads and a backing plate. Figured the body shop supply places would have them. First guy was a jerk. I was told they didn't have pads smaller than 8" as they only deal with professional polishers. He felt the PC was only to be used as a sander. While I appreciate his enthusiasm for rotary, it didn't help me. Next place had a backing plate and some 3m 7" waffle pads. I remember waffle from my brief rotary use but before I bought them wanted to know what people here thought about using them. I left empty handed and headed home.

Since the PC come with the white pad I figured I'd play on my 1988 black truck for a little bit. I've never used a PC and was instantly impressed. Incredible control and super easy to use. Having only used 9 and 10" orbitals, the PC was fantastic. Sadly I didn't have the products I needed to bring out the shine on my truck which is in pretty bad shape. Everything I have is non abrasive except a cleaner wax. After some time I noticed a small section of the hood getting the gloss I was looking for. Having seen that I'm real excited about doing this.

Not sure if the waffle pads will work. Looks to come only in a black and whiite pad. One was compounding and other polishing (I was told). I'm thinking about getting some LC 7.5's from TOL and whatever Automagic carries. Also planning on ordering some stuff from PB. I haven't got tons of cash sitting around so will spreading this out over the next few weeks.

Flexible backing pad or regular which would you use? Also I ran the PC on my friends 750 watt invertor for a bit and seems to work fine. One reason I do so much by hand is I can't stand to hear my generator run for long time.

Lastly a big thanks to all those that post here. I've mobile detailed for 15 years and admit I got kind of set in my ways. I don't think I've done anything different for the last 7 years or so and stopped trying to improve things. You guys have inspired me to kick things up a notch. BAM :)

To save money, I would suggest looking into a pad kit from one of the sponsors. You'll get a backing plate and several pads. Enough to get you started. I would say I like a flexible backing plate as well. Don't get in a rush to buy pads that you will eventually wind up not liking/using. Do the research and get something that will be worth your time and money. Good luck in finding the pads you need!!

And you got Rep Points for the Emeril reference. :) That's one of my favorite tele shows!!

Used the PC today on a customers Expedition. Just did a clay and one step on it. Beat the crap out of doing it by hand. Can't believe I've worked this long without one. I knew of them but didn't think they would be much different then my cheapo 9" oribtal which I hated and never used anymore.

Ordered 3 6.5" LC pad and a 7.5" Lc plush a backing plate today. Looking forward to those next week. Also was selling a paintball gun and got the money tonight for that so will be ordering my PB stuff probably Monday :)
