Ok home audio folks, new receiver...

I figure it's always good to run stuff by you all, since there is such a wide range of expertise here.

Basically I just want to make sure there's not some terrible thing I should be aware of.

My Sony STR-915 (I think) needs to be replaced. The center channel conked out, and it gets weird echo effects sometimes. It is about 9 years old, so it's not the worst thing ever that it is dying, but it did have problems once before under warranty too. All in all I try not to buy Sony anymore.

Anyway, so I have a 5-speaker Eosone setup with powered sub, so I don't really need more than a 5.1 receiver. But I'd like to get something decent, and something with s-video switching. I doubt I'd add 1 or 2 more speakers, but you never know.

I would like to order from Crutchfield because I just like the company. They have always treated me well, you can return stuff for any reason, and they have good pricing. To me that's worth it even if you might ultimately find some things a bit cheaper.

So to come down to it, I am considering getting this receiver: Onkyo TX-SR503 It seems like a ton of receiver for only $270...

I thought about the Denon AVR-1905 on clearance, but this Onkyo is so much cheaper and seems like it should be pretty nice. I don't need top-of-the-line by any means, just something nicer than what I had, but I do want a quality product with clean sound. Any strong opinions one way or the other on this purchase?

I don't think you can go wrong here, with either unit or with buying from Crutchfield. I've been very happy with all three companies.

I doubt you'll find any significant performance difference between the two. All things being equal you might as well go for the less expensive one. There are a couple subtle differences in features so you'll need to compare those features to your personal needs.
