I've been experimenting with my {son's :D } digicam, since my first attempts were pretty cruddy, and these are the latest results ~~

I like your taste in cars ;) Nice shine. It looks so odd to me, that there aren't any little wipers on the headlights. I guess you haven't got much use for the "winter package" in Georgia.

Yeah - I don't have the heated seats either -- not much need for 'em - maybe 2 or 3 days out of the year!!

Wow, the pics look great. Nice job in framing them. Looks like you read Car Guy's photo tips.

And the Volvo looks great too. The dressing on the tires is pretty matte, is it 303?

One day we'll have to have a "Swedish Shine Off", my Saab vs. your Volvo. Let Autopians vote for the best one.

Here's a pic of mine:

Nice shine, I like the blue in the second pic, I can tell the car is blue in that one. Nice job on the front wheels too:up

Thanks, bret --

I did read Car Guy's tips -- very helpful!

And I also found (the only thing I did find by google searching) this site: Motorcar Photography Tips by Curt Scott that helped alot -- sort of a Auto Photography for Dummies! It has some digital photo tips. (And, of course, I finally read the digi-cam's manual) :D

Believe it or not, the tire dressing is TW 2001 Tire Gel, rubbed in well, about 1 month after application. I haven't driven that much - just a few times/week.

:scared Swedish Shine Off!?! I'm afraid!!! I'm still not good enough for that!!! :scared

Thanks, billyray -- that blue is hard to photograph well -- if anyone has any tips on getting color to come out well in digital photography, I'm open to 'em!!

I did discover that if I shot "into" the sun (which had almost set, it was 8 pm and I couldn't see it at all) the hood looked almost white, but if I shot away from the sun (toward the passenger side in these pics, the hood had more color)

You know, I think I'm spending more time trying to get good shots of my car that I ever did with my kids!! :D

Ok, after I finally got a woman I find out they like volvos. This could have saved me years of searching. Actually I have been married for over 28 years.

Very nice photos. Can you tell us what products you use?

Suggestion Box: Could those of you with the skill to post such beautiful pictures include products and method. After all you just saved a 1000 words.

LOL!

Here's my product list/method:

When we bought the Volvo (in March) we Dawned -- and discovered a multitude of swirls, etc. that the dealer had hidden!!!(These were pre-Autopian days for me).

The trim had been coated with something that looked great, until the first wash -- I almost fainted when I saw how badly it was faded! And the engine had been sprayed with something "shiny" that has managed to bake itself onto the aluminum heatshield.

Sooooo, after seeing that we had some work to do -- hit the 'net perused various car care sites, and finally found Autopia --

then:

We clayed the entire car using Erazer Poly-Clay (similar to Pinnacle)

Compounded with 3M PI-II using the PC

Then used SMR with the PC

We glazed with Super Glaze from DC Car Care, then waxed with Meguiar's #26 Yellow Paste Wax.

After receiving Platinum samples from Tim (Thanks again!!) we did the following:

Dawn again

PPCL

2X Platinum

***Took a series of stinky pics at this point*** :D

P21S Concours Look Carnauba Wax (I like, I like -- so easy to use!)

TW 2001 Tire Gel on the tires

Meguiar's Trim Restorer on the trim

Vinylex & Lexol on interior vinyl/leather respectively

Autoglym glass polish on the glass

And that's where we are today!!

Only one wheel and wheel well has been completely detailed ~ took wheel off & used EO A2Z Orange & EFHI to clean front & back, then sealed with NuFinish (didn't have my platinum at this time) ~ wheel well coated with TW2001 ~ gotta get those other 3 done and the engine!

Hey -- I think I just added another 1000 words to my pics! Sorry for the lengthy post!

Great work, that sheen from the tyres looks great, looks very similar to P21S tyre cleaner.

discovered a multitude of swirls, etc. that the dealer had hidden!!!(, when I bought my car last year, the dealer did the same thing to me, not sure what he used but it took a long time to get the paint clean.

Steven

It's pretty scary to get home, wash the car, and be shocked at all the imperfections! Needless to say, I was depressed like crazy, until I found Autopia!

From now on, we shop for cars with portable halogens! LOL :D

Hi Volvo,

Very nice job! If I look real close at pic of your hood reflection, I think I can see a bird on the power line. ;) j/k

Have a nice day!

Aloha,

Ranney
