OCW Questions

Thanks in advance for your help with this... I've used OCW a little in the past with favorable results and am considering increasing my usage depending on some of the answers to these questions. As spring approaches, I will be applying UPP on my magnesium metallic honda...

1. Topping UPP with OCW - what's your experience regarding compatibility and effect, such as muted flakes, deeper gloss, etc?

2. Durability of OCW vs UPPS ?

Thanks much...

1. It should work fine. I've put it on top of KSG, UPP, UPPS, and #16. Worked fine!

2. UPP seems to be more durable but OCW offers great protection minimum 2 months. So ease of use plays the bigger role.

joyride... how would you compare durability between UPPS and OCW????

OCW and UPPS are a couple of products I haven't used. (Yet:))
The only comment I would have is that using a product from within the same family might give better results. I happen to be a UPP user and will be trying the UPPS in the spring. I also use 4 Star UGE for my quick detailer to stay within the family.

I haven't used OCW. I do have the UPPS and i used the UPPS today after applying UPP a couple days ago.
The shine and clarity is beautiful, the slickness is beyond any products i have used.

OCW DEFINATELY!
How would you know?
You've never left your car alone for 30 days. :D

Do you really feel you can tell a difference in the time span that you probably left it alone? About 30 days would be as long as I would leave one alone and with a spray wax it might even be weekly.:)

Damn, sorry about that. Just re-read my post back to you and it came off quite rude.

I tried using UPPS on my dads S55 AMG

I've also used OCW on my brothers armada. All with the same prep. Brothers Armada still looks good now, while dad's AMG only looked good for about a month.
No problem. My comments were in jest since most of us can't leave things alone for any length of time, anyway. :)

I dirve between 150 to 300 miles daily, so I feel that I get about 30 days worth of wear about every few days in terms of durability (hope that made sense). I typically apply ~3x of my initial sealant, then reapply every couple weekends or so @ 1x or 2x. With OCW or UPPS, most likely I'll try to reapplying every weekend at 2x.

In this scenario UPPS or OCW????

Thanks for your input dudes...

One thing that I don't think has been mentioned is the Carnauba content of the OCW.
From the Premium Auto Care web-site:
Optimum Car Wax is a spray-on car wax that provides the durability of a paste wax plus long-lasting UV protection. A combination of high-grade Carnauba wax, silicone sealants and UV inhibitors form a protective layer on the painted surface to protect the paint from sun damage and environmental elements.
Wouldn't using OCW mean that you would need to use a paint cleaner to remove it before applying more sealant?
It evidently is a good product, but the need to remove it before applying more sealant would keep me from using it.
Obviously, that wouldn't be an issue if you don't plan to apply a sealant.

True, but after polishing and applying a sealant base, I then simply go with two weekly top ups of OCW until the next polishing session is due 6-12 months later. On silver, you cannot beat OCW on top of AIO - great durability, great wetness, awesome clarity in the reflections and very little if any muting of flake. It's my go to product for my own car - shown below. :)

WX51 TXR - Nice, nice looking car! Great job, and thanks for the input. Don't recall anyone using only this combination, but, after thinking about it it seems that it would produce as you write. Not to mention a very easy combination to apply and maintain.

Can OCW be purchased local?

I've only seen it from our site sponsors. Pretty sure the nationwide auto stores don't carry it, but not 100%. You could go to the Optimum web page and see if they list any other resalers.
