What/how has your experience been with the newer sealants and waterspotting (OptiCoat, Aquartz/CQuartz).

If you find there is waterspotting, are you guys having a *tough time* doing spot repairs ---- isolated polishing.

Or are you doing considerably more polishing on these sealants in order to correct the water spotting ?

I used OC2.0 last weekend on the roof of my 2011 RX350 because I hate how the roof rack and cross bars tend to leave water spots.

2 days later, the car gets egged parked in the front of my house. Luckily, I hosed away the debris (as much as I could find) and drove off. Finally had time to wash the car properly 2 more days later and I find a strip of eggwhite on the roof, undisturbed because I never saw it there in the first place. I was pleasantly surprised to find no etching of the clearcoat or I OC2.0 where that eggwhite was sitting for 4 days. The water spots left from the hose-down washed away with my usual car wash routine and I did not see any need to polish.

Hope this helps. YMMV.

you can get water spotting on the coatings. most of the coating add measurable amount of film on to the clear coat and maybe harder than the clear they are applied over. they are subject to the same damage that clear coat would be.
