NXT vs. #26

Seems like NXT is a very popular wax among the autopians. What about #26? I'm using #26 right now and was just wondering what advantage I'll get with NXT.

I am a long time user of #26. I have also used NXT. I would say just give it a try and see if you like it. You are gonna probably here differing opinions on NXT here but, all that really matters is what you think of it on your car. I think the main concern right now is one of durability. Some are having issues with it while others don't. I managed to get 3 months out of it. I have been really happy with NXT and will probably continue to use it.

Here are a couple of pics for comparison (just keep in mind the lighting is very different, I think the look is very similar in person)

Being the most popular doesn't make it the best. IMO, #26 is noticeably a higher quality product than NXT. But then of course, I think of NXT as a failed lab reject, remarketed for pimpin' Integras and other Car Crazy things... the Meguiar's response to McDonald's "i'm lovin' it," engineered to target and reflect "the culture and lifestyles of today's consumer."

Okay, I'll stop now, but I think that describes my dislike of NXT Tech Wax. So my advice is, Stick with #26!

:p

I've been a long time user of #26 and love what it does for darker colors. The deepening of the color and the wet look are great. I tried NXT and find nearly the same look.

In fact, to rebut BW's experience with NXT durability, I have a 04 Lexus RX330 which is a daily driver. I washed, clayed, cleaned, polished and NXTed on 4/21/04.

Normally I redo my vehicles every month but since there was some controversy here about the durability of NXT I still have not renewed the surface.

While this vehicle is garaged every evening, it has had quite a 6 week run so far. Five washings (Gold Class Wash) and an average of 4 rains per week (very wet spring) and the paint still beads like crazy. The finish still feels slick and the dirt doesn't seem to stick which tells me that NXT is still performing nicely. The paint was excellent to start with as the vehicle is only about 7 months old.

I'll hold off on redoing this vehicle for up to two more weeks to continue this durability test.

I can't explain why BW and a couple others seem to have differing experiences with NXT but there are more enthusiasts here who have had positive experiences than negative. There was a couple of polls here recently asking if you would buy NXT again and it was a landslide in favor of NXT so it is popular and in my opinion, well deserved based on my experience with it.

If you have any doubts a few here have applied NXT and layered #26 over it.

Well that poll was, IMO very misleading. I mean come on... the other choices were Meguiar's #20, Medallion, & Gold Class. I'm lukewarm about NXT. Don't hate it..don't like it.....but it's still a better product than the other three choices but at the same time I don't think I'll buy it again. So where does that leave me? The poll doesn't even give me the option to say "no, I wouldn't buy it again".

To me, a poll like this should have a yes or no choice when the question is "NXT, will you/would you buy it ?" Also, to keep things in perspective, only 62 people voted in this poll altogether (regardless of how they voted). That's just about the number of people here who list Klasse as their favorite sealant.

Totally bogus poll.

As for the other poll, 30 people said NXT is a great product. I'm sure if the same poll was done for a product like Souveran, P21S, Zaino, Klasse, that number would suddenly look pretty small.

BW has a different opinion because he is a different person. He's also one of us, an Autopian.

The best way to find out how to use our opinions is to try a few products, and see what YOU think. A bad review would then not necessarily be, for you, a lack of endorsement. For example, if you try NXT, and love it, then you know that BW will be an accurate "negative indicator" of your preferences. If you try Zaino, and love it, then you know that I will be an accurate "negative indicator" of your preferences. Or, if you decide you LOVE #26, and I too love #26, then you can trust my opinion when I say that I love NXT.

It doesn't help you if I say that I love #26, and my preferences are different than yours; you might value high reflectiveness over depth and jetting.

We owe it to our community to accurately report what we see and what we think about what we see. BW is doing exactly that by reporting his opinion of NXT; it's up to each of us to then decide where we stand relative to his preferences.

I like both products. #26 will give you a 'warmer' look and NXT has sharper reflections. The differences aren't massive but enough to notice.

An excellent comprimise is Meguiars #16 Pro Paste Wax. It has the sharp reflections of NXT and the carnauba glow of #26...and it is super durable for a carnauba.
