NXT first with Griot's Best in Show Wax Is this a good way to go?

I have a 99 silver VW Passat with the paint in pretty good shape and I have done a little detailing on other cars when I was younger, but I am no expert.

Recently I detailed my car with a clay bar and then applied the McGuires NXT wax. It seemed pretty good, then I applied the Griot's best of show wax and the shine seemed deeper.

It has been a long Seattle rainy season since I waxed, but it is time for a spring detail. I have used the Griots Speed Shine in between the best of show waxes.

This time I plan to do the following:

1 Wash car with Dawn and rinse really well

2 Clay bar with Griot's speed shine

3 Hand Polish (Griot's) with MF towel

4 NXT wax applied by hand

5 Best of Show applied over the top

Any comments on my selections of products and how they compare? I have read about the Klasse all in one, is it better than the NXT? Could (Should) I swap out the NXT step for the Klasse AIO?

Also, I don't have a bunch of money, but there is a polisher at home depot for about $30 , should I avoid this or will it work to apply the hand polish and waxes for a silver car?

All help is appreciated. I'm sure every new member asks these same type of questions, but it's new to me :)

Spooner, I have'nt used the BOS wax so I can't really comment there. I know alot of members on here are'nt too keen about, but if the results are okay for you then that's all that matters. I actually love the NXT tech wax especially when applied via PC, however on some silvers and whites it can be hit or miss. So to slightly answer your question, there are some better products out there depending on what your looking for. Are you looking for more depth, higher shine? I really wanted to respond to your thread because of the Covington sig. I love that little(not so lttle anymore)town. Do they still have that once a year city fair? I'm fairly close to you, so perhaps in the summer I can help you with some products and processes. I have them all... :wavey

Thanks for the reply,

I am happy with it, but the reviews on the Klasse AIO look very positive. I am not familiar with all of the detail products these days and bought the NXT based on the sales person at GI Joes. I would like to hear from people that really know this stuff to get a feel for what I am working with.

What would you recommend to adjust my detail methods?

Yes it still has "Covington Days" :)

Spooner- Welcome to Autopia!

I dunno how well the Griot's Hand Polish will hold up to the cleaners in the NXT, but I suspect the two will be fairly compatible. The combination of the two should hide any light marring you have far better than the Klasse twins would. FWIW, I'd use Meg's #80 instead of the Griot's Hand Polish, but if you already have the Griot's just use it. The Griot's will be more user-friendly, but less effective, than the #80.

IMO the Klasse twins are best used on marring-free finishes, which can be hard to obtain by hand. Yeah, even silver will need correction for Klasse to look good on it (I use Klasse on silver vehicles). IMO a better product of that type for your situation would be Autoglym's SRP (more forgiving on imperfect finishes). But for now I'd just keep using the NXT you already have.

Don't bother with the cheapie polisher. Save for a PC instead. Work by hand for now.

I'd stick with your plan, it should turn out very nice.

Since you already have the BOS I don't see any reason not to use it. I don't like it myself, but it's not like it's *bad* stuff or anything. There are just other waxes I like better. When you're about out of the BOS you might look into something like Collinite Insulator Wax, another liquid that I bet you'd like a lot better.

I'd wait a day or so (or until the next wash) before applying the BOS over the NXT.

You might look into the #80, the SRP, and IW for future details, but there's no real need to buy anything different now. It's easy to get caught up in the "new/better/different product" thing ;)

Thanks Accumulator<

Anyone, how would you rate these two against each other

1) clay, hand polish(griot's), AIO, Souvran

2) clay, hand polish (griots), NXT, BOS (Griot's)

or 3 which combo of the two has the best finish on a daily driver that sees a few Passat club events, etc. (silver)?

3) clay, Polish?_______, AIO, wax? _________

my other question is on the cheapie orbital buffer...does it do any good at all applying the griot's polish or removing the wax until I can afford the PC?

Thanks for the help so far :)

Either 1 or 2 should give decent results. As for a PC, it is hard to describe how effective this tool can be but it is really worth saving up for. It took my shine to another level.

I would put the $30 towards the PC - you will not regret it.
