NXT as a 1-Stepper via Rotary

So I had some trouble with this North East early heat wave. It has brought some humidity and my paint cleaner (Gliptone Pro-Buff) was being a PITA so I said screw it after only completing the hood of a client's vehicle. The client only wanted light paint cleaning and protecting, so no heavy swirl removal.

I washed my polishing pad and plopped it on the rotary to dry off at max rpm. I then sprayed a couple squirts of Meguiar's Quik Detailer on the pad to moisten it a little more. I also put a few thin lines of NXT Tech Wax on it as well.

Next, I split the hood into 4 sections, each section leaving a thin line about 1 foot long of NXT Tech Wax. I went at it, working the NXT in until you could barely see it (2-3 passes). I did this on all the panels. I went back over it and wiped the Tech Wax off once finished (about 30 mins).

My thoughts: This cut down on about 1 hour of my time on a Yukon XL by doing it in one step. I honestly don't think I would've gotten better results by using my paint cleaner via rotary followed by NXT by hand. The color is deep, wet, and reflective and I am soo happy this worked out well. NXT filled/removed swirls and minor scratches as well as rain spots. It did NOT leave any hologramming from the rotary and it spread on the unprepped surface quite well.

All in all...I will DEFINATELY be doing this much more in the future. The results are GREAT! My final process was:

-Mother's Gold Wash

-Spot Clay Barred some road paint down the side

-NXT via Makita Rotary with LC polishing pad @ 1000 rpm

-Armor All on wheel wells and tires

-Gliptone Probuff on all chrome trim, lights, and rims

First, here is the paint before. Remember, just washed and dryed.

This is right after removing NXT via Rotary :shocked

Enjoy!

Wow, that looks great! I really like using NXT, but the only that concerns me is the durability. Seems to be 2-5 weeks and its "dead". Opinions?

i love the way autopians talk about durability, and most of us end up waxin our cars every week hehe.

great results by the way!!

Great shine. Damn GM orange peel. It does make some of the photo's look like artwork however.

<RANT ON>Why do most GM cars always have this? You would think that they could figure out how to paint a vehicle. They have been doing this for a few years now and you would think they could perfect this process. <RANT OFF>

Why rotary?

NXT is really just filling those swirls anyway. Why not just apply it by hand, or PC to save time?

Did you try a section by hand to compare? I have doubts the rotary made any difference except speed of application.

The good part is that a few weeks from now the fillers will be gone and the paint will looked all scratched again.

Sorry, but it's hard for me not to be sarcastic about "covering" up a paint problem and charging for it instead of solving the issue for real.

I'm sure the client was pleased. Will they still be pleased 3 weeks from now? I wouldn't.

well the rotary's action and the pad really looks to have beefed up the cleaning action that is already in NXT. The swirls may not have all been removed....but it's just like using a polish(you can bump up the agressiveness simply by rotary, speeds, and pads). Good job....you have pushed NXT to a really high level.....goes to show you how much other stuff matters....not just the product.

THANK YOU! :bow

It is a process, not just a product. Some here don't belive, but I guess you have to try it first. I am friends with the customer, so I will keep an eye on the durability.

I would call this giving the customer more than what they expected. Good idear you got there. And good job. :xyxthumbs

Looks good. I would imagine the heat the rotary generates will correct minor cobwebbing when using NXT and actually remove those light spiderswirls instead of just covering them up.

I've been getting decent durability out of NXT down here in the Dallas area. By decent, I mean at least 3 months of beading and no squeaky paint when you rub your bare hand over it.

Looks awesome! I can't wait to try NXT on my car. I'm wondering when we're going to receive NXT here locally because I've been waiting quite a while now.
