No. 1 liquid was Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0, with a score of 69. Second and third, respectively, were Nu Finish NF-76 (score: 68) and Meguiar's Gold Class Carnauba Plus Premium Liquid Wax (also 68).

No. 1 paste wax was Nu Finish NFP-80 (71), followed by Turtle Wax Ice Synthetic Paste Polish (68) and Mothers FX Engineered SynWax (56).

"The best pastes can provide longer protection than liquids," according to the report. Only two waxes -- the two top-rated paste waxes -- got "Excellent" ratings for durability.

For your consideration.

I've always wondered how CR would rate something like CQuartz/OC2.0/Poxy/BFWD/Zaino or any of the other top contenders used by reputable detailers, against their OTC LSP test results.

Not going to happen, those products are not readily available to the general public.

Advertising puts products on mass marketers shelves, so if the product is not readily available to the majority of the public, no test, no results are posted.

That sort of thinking is way above their heads....

Well, at least they are trying. :) Most reports on detailing, products, techniques, etc. Are pretty lame.

Definitely, and as Ron said, these aren't mainstream products so why bother comparing a product that is only used by a fraction of a percentage of the population. All these test results mean are your average wash-and-wax car enthusiast is gonna grab the bottle of NXT over Synwax after reading this report.

OK, I can't find it, and it is probably urban legend, but I heard CR gave Lawnboy a bad score cause the oil plug wasn't handy. (for you non landscape guys - it was a 2 stroke mower)

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing; NXT really is a decent product.

I have tried most of those and the NXT works good. The Megs ultimate wax is better because it is easy to use, and lasts a long time. Nothing makes a car shine like the TW Ice, and I have at least 20 different waxes in my collection. Don't be snooty and knock it if you have never tried it.

Would be nice if someone did a comparison between high-end waxes themselves and also compared them to mass marketed products. Maybe someone should write a magazine called "Detailers Weekly... or montly... or quaterly" lol. Would be great info the the novice and professional alike.

I agree, I like NXT (still have a bottle and a half of it), it's just that IMO it looks like a Zaino'ed vehicle but with a fraction of the durability. It's something I'd use on my own vehicle since I can reapply as needed but for a client car (which demand durability as daily drivers), it sort of lacks in that department.

I have been saying this ever since I got into the industry. Main problem is that suppliers like MEG CG MOTHERS ECT. ECT. would try to basically fund the magazine to use it as another form of advertising. But, if it could remain independant then we could finally get a good subjective and scientific view on detailing products and processes. But you never know crazier stuff has happened.

I can't speak for the other manufacturers you mentioned, but we don't operate that way.

Couldn't agree more. I used the NXT on my garage queen Trans Am and was impressed with everything EXCEPT durability.

Nu Finish ahead of Mothers FX synwax paste? :knockout:

I want something of what these guys are smoking. FX is probably the best all around OTC product.

But hey, aren't these the chimps that rated armor all wax #1 a few years ago? ;)

You guys have to remember the context of this test, its meant for the regular ole Joe that might wax his car once in the spring and once in the fall. In that context, I think the results are spot on.
