not abrasive enough

Yesterday after Claying car the night before and went from sandpaper to baby's butt soft I decided to break out the new UDM (first time with any orbital).

I have an 2000 Audi S4 silver so you can hardly notice swirls or scratches at all to begin with but I used the Menz IP with the orange LLC pad and nothing. Could not dent the swirls I could barely see under my halogen? should I go to the yellow with IP? I have some 106ff I was going to use next with a white? what would you do? leave the few you can barely see and go to 106ff or try for perfection. I worked about 5 hours last night.

also I was putting about 2-3" lines or 4 nickle size beads and it never seamed enough? after one slow past seamed like it was gone.??? comment.

Audis of that vintage have very hard clear (we currently have two of 'em).

I've never been too successful doing correction on them with larger pads, but then I've never used the UDM either (perhaps it's more aggressive than the PC/4" or Cyclo).

Also, I've never used Menzerna IP..so I dunno how helpful I can be...

I wouldn't go to the yellow, IME the orange will do the job with the right product and the yellow *might* leave micromarring similar to what you're trying to correct.

I wouldn't switch to the 106FF until you make more progress with the IP...*BUT* I've never tried that product either and it just *MIGHT* do the job since it's made for hard clear. So I think I'd try it on one limited area, about four complete passes (each one a complete breakdown/wipe off of product).

If that doesn't do it, you can either keep trying with the IP or get something more aggressive. I'd plan on the latter and if the UDM will take smaller pads I'd consider using 4" ones for this job.

FWIW, when using the PC/4" to correct Audis, I'll sometimes do innumerable passes to effect even minor correction. Each one does an indiscernibly minute bit of correction and the many combined, over perhaps an hour or more per panel, eventually get the job done.

Even with the rotary, I seldom do complete correction on that clear with one pass, even with fairly aggressive products. This weekend I did maybe four-six passes with 3M PI-III RC 05933 at 1400rpms to remove marring I could only *barely* see under certain types of lighting.

That helps. I think since you cannot see the fine scratches unless you are REALLY looking for them I may make 1 pass 106ff and then kaoi, then sealant and be done with it.

or skip the Aoi altogether and seal it. I am sure I will be trying a lot of combo's in the future. My wife made me turn the UDM off at dark or I would still be working:buffing:
