No experience at all

Whaazz up. My name is Jason and I'm new to the auto detailing business period. I mean no experience at all. But I do have a passion for cars....That's what brought me to the biz..So far I've been reading religiously. I've learned so much in the past six months its crazy. So far I've bought everything I need to build my own van unit from just studying other units I saw on line. Not just buying anything. Looked at hundreds of setups and also researched every item that I liked and I came up with a sweet setup. All I need now is the van and the water tank. But there is one problem that I can't get through, and that's finding the right distributor. I want to go with auto magic but there are so many to choose from I can't decide. Any help from some experienced detailers would be great...

THANKS!

Welcome to the biz and to DC. I use a lot of Auto Magic products. They are a great source for cleaners, dressings, clays, and items like microfiber products, brushes, etc. Car Brite is another great company. I don't really plug either company for paint correction for a mobile detailer though since their polish and wax hates the sun. Check out Autogeek.net and definatly look into Poorboys products, especially their polishes and waxes. Very user friendly stuff and priced well. Also I think every newbie in the business should watch the Mike Phillips videos at Autogeek. You'll learn a lot from them :)

The thing about becoming an auto detail technician is the fact that every detail technician is going to find particular products that he or she likes better than others. This means lots of trial & error as well as lots of different products to try.

I am coming up on 20 years in the business now and still try new products here and there, but ultimately have found that I will always use multiple distributors for different products. Many times you will find that these distributors will offer different pricing for the same items ....... doesn't hurt to shop around when you decide to replenish.

AutoGeek is a great source for beginners to learn the business and techniques, however there are much better resources available once you have an idea of chemicals/products you choose to use.

Menzerna polishes have been & will always be a main staple in my arsenal due to the high quality and user friendly product line up.

My .02 :)

Welcome to DC and good luck with your new venture...spend a lot of time reading and even more working on cars..you'll get there

Welcome to DC.
Keep an opened mind. No one is here to lead you wrong.
If you are off base though someone will point you in the right direction and don't get offended.
More important take the chance to learn and have fun.

Welcome to the boards. There is alot of helpful info on here, and if I were you I'd start digging my head into some autogeek vids. The information on there is idiot proof:bigups

Thanks for the replies. All of you were very helpful. @ mrclean81 and Shadetree I guess I'll start off using the auto magic and try new things as I go. @ johnhenry Im from detroit I currently live in dallas but don't know if I'll stay here. Thinking of moving back east depending on how it works out here.

Lots of Dallas area B&M locations to pick up AM if that's your decision. There are at least 3 near me. I use their car washes and 777 Triple Seven is an excellent APC.

I'm not sure if they have distributors nation wide, but I buy a lot of stuff from my Superior guy. Not the highest quality stuff but its better than most over the counter stuff and pretty affordable. Their "Zap It" stain remover is the best stuff I've ever used. They might be worth looking into as well.

Though I like this stuff, I won't post a link
