nightmare burn

so my buddy got a 2004 wrx the other day and decided to debadge it. Got the letters and most of the glue off however the paint looked to be raised outlining the letters. This looked bad so he barrowed my rotary to see if he could make them less visable. I'm talking low grit polish running at 2-2.5 speed on my buffer. He knows how to use it proficiently - we both wrked for a detail companies and used the rotary alot. Well he starts up and the letter start blending then i leave to get a beer and boom........the screams still haunt my ears.....he burned through to the primer. Its the size of a silver dollar right smack dab in the center of his trunk. I've wrked with single stage paints and it never wiped off like this. i do not know much about painting. Is it possible to respray the area, clear coat, and blend? this shop near me said the whole trunk has to be stripped and repainted running 300 bucks. others tell me that people can spray the area and blend from there. if someone can help me us out we would appreciate it. thanks for replies

place by my house took off my fender, cut out the damaged part, rewelded a new piece back in, painted it and it came out looking....decent.....you can tell where they used the rotary and left polish lines under the clearcoat from what it looks like to me, as I have not been able to polish them out....its not too noticeable without looking for it, but I know its there...

so, if I were you....try doing it yourself....if you mess it up, its still has to be body shop fixed anyway...try some touch up paint, clear coat, wetsand, polish, polish and LSP....cant hurt to try and save your friends 300 bucks....plus now you can experiment with different techniques/products...hahaha

or you can go on subaru websites and see if some is parting out a wrx trunk..ppl do this to offset the cost of a carbon fiber one....just look for one in that color

To me, since the paint was raised, sounds like it was repainted once already and the paint shop just taped around the emblem.

anyone who paints know how much this job should cost me? ballpark? thanks for the advice people i really appreciate the help.

To repaint the truck? $400-$500...you wanna just repaint the whole panel. Or you could find another badge to cover it up.
