Next Level Up In Aggression Using PC

I own a 2002 Honda Civic. It went to the dealer for some work and it, unfortuately, got washed by the dealer.

A few weeks ago I bought some Meguiar's #9 Swirl Remover. Used it by hand and got at most 50% of the clear-coat scratches. Went to Lowes and purchased the PC7336-RO. Bought the velcro backing plate and some CMA yellow and white pads. Read and re-read GeekySteve's article PC For Beginners.

Using the PC with a yellow pad and #9 was able to remove another 25-35% of the scratches. Finished with PC applied P21S GEPC and a white pad and finally McCall's Wax by hand. Must say it looks real good.

To get the other 10-20% what do I need to do? (DACP or Menzerna or 3M Compound or Wool Pad or Rotary? Also, what exactly is hazing?).

Hazing is like a slight cloudy/white film on your paint. it is from using a compound on your finish to remove imperfections and deep swirls, then followed up with a polishing pad and a polish to remove the haze and make the paint surface glossy and haze free.

The #9 is pretty mild stuff. it has fillers in it so I would have spot checked after each panel by spraying with a 5/50 mix of alcohol/water ensure total swirl removal.

The next step I would try is DACP and a yellow foam cutting pad.

This will ensure a swirl free or darn close to a swirl free surface. Then Meguiar's #9 with a polishing pad and you should be ready to protect, or you can get anal and a polishing or finishing pad with P21S and finish all that off with wax. Make sure the mcCall's was doesn't contain any cleaners. After all this polishing of making the finish smooth and glossy you don't want to hinder it by using a cleaner wax. I like P21s wax, at $25 a pop its a baragain, at $15 a can for S100 the same thing its a steal.......

Jason,

Thanks for the advice. Will probably try DACP next.

McCall's Wax has no cleaner in it. This blue paste wax is just as easy to use as P21S and Soveran. Price is on par with P21S.

What about a CMA wool pad? Is a wool pad too aggressive? DACP is 2 times the cutting action of #9. I was thinking of a wool pad + #9. Is this combo, wool + #9 vs. yellow + DACP, too strong???

If Meg’s #9 isn’t doing the needed mar removal, then I’d fall back to Meg’s #2 on the yellow pad. Follow with #9 on a white pad, and GEPC on a gray pad.

Good luck and have fun!
