Newby needs help choosing wax for a 1 year old car

I bought my car last year and for the first months it was kept outside, since I didn't have a garage to keep it in. I have to admit, some of the scratches/swirl marks on the car are my fault because of not cleaning the car well and probably having the wrong drying towels.

Now that I have a garage for it I want to start fixing some of the scratches and swirl marks as well as getting it nice and shiny! ;) I've attached an image of one of the scratches, there are also a couple of paint chips in the hood of the car as well as a lot of swirl marks. :(

I currently have Zaino Z1, Z2, Z5, and Z6, although I have not gotten great results with them, probably because the prep work was not all that good, I just washed the car, and started with the Zaino!

Now what I want to do is start from scratch (no pun intended), so what should I get, from car wash, drying towels, polish, wax, MF towels, etc.? This is for a Deep Sapphire Blue car (dark blue) and first priority is getting rid of the swirl marks and scratches.

Here is what I'm thinking so far:

1st: wash with dawn

2nd: ??? P21S Gloss-enhancing Paintwork Cleanser?

3rd: use 3M Swirl Remover or Meguiar's Swirl Remover

4th: for wax, use P21S, Souveran or stay with Zaino.

For drying/detailing towels I think I'm just going to order some of the towels found in the Shop section of this site. Thanks!

Are you using a PC? A rotary?

How about DACP first, followed by your swirl remover?

Do you want to try your Zaino again (and keep using a sealant) or maybe try another kind of sealant? (maybe the Klasse twins)

If you want to top with wax, sure, p21s/s100 would be good , I don't see the need for the expensive of the Souveran.

If you use Zaino don’t use swirl removers with fillers and oils. Zaino won't bond correctly.

So, use Meguiars DACP, followed by their swirl remover? (I didn't even know about that product). By the way, do I just apply DACP once and then use the swirl remover, more than once if necessary or do I also have to use DACP more than once if needed?

I don't have a PC, I'm going to try doing everything by hand.

I think I might try P21S for the wax then. I guess using their paintwork cleanser after washing the car with dawn is ok, right?

Clay would be right after the car is washed, right? Hope Clay Lube and Clay Magic will do the trick.

holly crap!! :nixweiss

Well, at least I didn't say I was an expert here! :D

I guess I'll try to get a 7424 and some polishing pads. Hope it's not too difficult to use, since I haven't used one before. I did find a good post about Porter Cables, and accessories, which will most likely come in handy.

Thanks Bill, fidelfs and rightlane! I'm going to try to order a couple of things I don't already have and get started on this. :xyxthumbs
