Newbie to Site and Detailing

Hey all. Great site and lots of info. I'm from N. IL and the winters can be harsh on cars here. I want to get our cars buffed and protected before winter. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the Griots 6" DA. My only concern is the Meguiars compounds seem better? I have a few questions...

1. Should I purchase one of their "starter kits"? If so.. any recommendation?

2. Is the 3" machine worth purchasing as well? Will I need it? Or is it more economical to get 4" bp for the larger machine?

3. I was thinking first about the Meguiars DA with their MicroFiber polishing kit. Is this worth purchasing over the GG?

As for what I'm using it for..

1. My BLACK '07 Toyota Prius that has had a life of Delta Sonic Washes!! Yippy.. NOT!! Lot's of swirl marks.. but still looks good when clean :D

2. Wifes Grey Metallic '04 Mazda MPV with a life of automatic car washes.. just not as many as my car. Her's actually looks good in regards to swirl marks, but you can see the age of the paint.

3. My White '03 Chevy Express 3500 work van. Not even sure if I'll get to this one LOL. It's HUGE. Some little rust showing. Lot's of imperfections.. or as I call it.. "character" :D

Again, thanks for a great site and any info you can steer my way will be appreciated!!

Welcome, definately get a DA machine like Griots, but-I'd get the Megs MF pads and some M105 or Uno- maybe both. Top with Poxy and you're good to go.

Hey guys.. thanks for the warm welcomes. I ended up purchasing a Meguiars DA with their MF kit... ADS was recommended by someone. Just got it yesterdays and looks good. I'm hoping to get a decent day here in N.IL. so I can wash it. After that I can pull it into my heated garage and take my time!! I'll post up picks when I get it done :D
