I'm a newbie, and I have very little experience with the vast number of products out there for detailing, but I just had to give my own little mini-review of a couple things I tried out today for the first time.
I just recieved my Duragloss 601 bonder, 105 Sealer, and Aquawax. Also got the Collinite 845 Insulator Wax.
I have been using Klasse AIO and SG, but I have had big crew cab trucks and I am notorious for putting things on too heavy, so I traded the SG for a claybar, and got in the new stuff. Today I washed my truck (1 month old Nissan Titan Crew Cab, color is Granite which is pretty much a heavy metallic pewter) with some Megs Deep Crystal. I thought this did not rinse very well and it left some residue...I'm going to stick with the Kit car wash from now on.
Went ahead and did another clay (3rd time since I bought the truck!) and followed that with a quick AIO with the PC. Now everything is perfectly clean, but even with the AIO, the truck just looks clean, not real glossy and not real slick. Definately not deep.
Put on a thin coat of the Duragloss 601 and let it haze up. I did my best to keep it thin, but I'm sure it was too heavy. Then waited about 20 minutes after coating the entire truck (except roof) and laid on the 105. Again, it was probably too heavy but I tried my best. I thought it kind of dragged just a little when putting it on (all lsp was done by hand with a MF applicator) but I attribute that to slightly too much product. Waited another 20 minutes after doing the entire truck and buffed off. This stuff came off so easy compared to the SG I was using before I could hardly believe it. All of a sudden my truck looked all together different. Nice gloss, VERY slick. I thought it was nice especially because of the ease of application/removal. The wife took a look and thought it was nice, but nothing special.
After giving my arms a rest for a couple hours, I went back out to the garage and was shocked at how much better the truck looked now. The depth and gloss were SO much greater...the difference was remarkable. I did not believe the appearance could change that much over a bit of time. I can't wait till morning to see if it gets even better.
Then I wanted to do the roof with the collinite IW. I agree the cap should be a flip top kind of thing, but I suppose I could change that without a problem. As easy as the Duragloss was, the Collinite was even easier. Goes on like melted butter, pretty easy to put on evenly and thin. This seemed to take a while to haze up, so I waited about 30 minutes to have a beer and rest my now very sore arms, then buffed off. Almost no pressure was needed to buff off the haze, and the look was astounding. I would have to say the depth was even greater than the Duragloss, but the gloss was maybe not as great, but impressive anyway. Gives the paint a very rich look, and I am convinced that this has to be the easiest to use LSP I could possibly ever use. Of course, I am used to Klasse SG which was difficult for me.
For newbies like me, I highly reccomend these products, though I'm sure having both is somewhat redundant. If they hold up as well as others have said, they have got to be the best bang for the buck out there.
I just went out and looked at the truck again...except for the friggin' cat sitting on the roof (if i could get away with it, I'd eliminate that problem with finality) the gloss and depth is still improving! I think I'll go sit out there and just stare at it for a while.
I don't know how you pros do this every day. My arms can barely move. You must have huge shoulders and tennis elbow from doing this all the time.
