Newbie Question For Experts

HI ALL. I MUST START BY SAYING THAT AFTER READING THROUGH POSTS FOR OVER 20 HOURS I HAVE GAINED ALOT OF KNOWLEDGE FROM EVERYONE. HERE IS MY QUESTION: I AM A HARLEY FANATIC AND SPEND MORE TIME DETAILING MY BIKE THAN I WANT TO ADMIT. OVER THE WINTER I HAD A NEW SET OF SHEETMETAL CUSTOM PAINTED. THE PAINT IS ALL HOUSE OF COLOR AND THE CLEAR IS PPG (DONT KNOW IF IT MATTERS). THE BASE COAT IS BLACK WITH BLUE PEARL AND SILVER PEARL GHOST FLAMES. EACH COLOR OF FLAMES IS SPRAYED SEPARATELY BUT INTERTWINED THROUGHOUT THE PAINTJOB. I HAVE USED S100 PRODUCTS ON MY BIKE SINCE I PURCHASED IT AND LOVE THEIR PRODUCTS. THE PAINT JOB HAS CURED FOR 60 DAYS AND IM READY TO CLEAN AND PROTECT IT BEFORE INSTALLING. I USE S100 TOTAL CYCLE CLEANER, S100 SEPC AND S100 PASTE WAX. MY QUESTION IS SHOULD I CLAY THE SET? SHOULD I USE A SEALER BEFORE THE WAX? IF SO I WAS THINKING KLASSE AIO AND SG. WILL THE SEPC REMOVE THE SG?



SORRY FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS. I KEEP MY BIKE IN PRISTINE CONDITION ALWAYS. I QD BEFORE ALMOST EVERY RIDE. I ONLY WASH THE BIKE EVERY MONTH OR TWO WHEN THE BLACK OF THE MOTOR GETS DIRTY LOOKING. WHEN I WASH I USE S-100, AND BLOW THE BIKE OFF WITH A CYCLE DRYER AND TOWEL WITH MF(I NOW KNOW THAT THE MF I HAVE BEEN USING ARE JUNK AND WILL ORDER SOME FROM AUTOPIA WITH MY NEW MEMBER 10% DISCOUNT). ANY RECOMMENDATIONS ON MF? I WAX EVERY TIME I WASH THE BIKE.



I DO NOT CARE ABOUT COST OR WORK INVOLVED AS NOTHING IS TOO GODD FOR MY BABY. JUST LOOKING FOR A LITTLE PROFESSIONAL ADVICE AS TO EXACTLY WHERE TO START. MY BIKE LOOKS AMAZING NOW BUT THE FACTORY PAINT JOB IS BLUE WITH HEAVY METALLIC AND HIDES SWIRLS PRETTY WELL. I JUST WANT TO DO EVERYTHING I CAN TO PROTECT THE NEW PAINTJOB AS IT COST A SMALL FORTUNE FOR THE SIZE OF IT. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP.
 
Invest in some micro's.



You dont need to clay, because the paint has never been exposed to any elements. It has not been transported via truck or train or whatever. It is fresh.



I think if you use AIO then a topper no matter what it is, you will be good to go.



If you QD alot, makes sure that you have a QD that is compatible with what you have on as a LSP-sealant or wax.

THANKS FOR THE FAST REPLY. THE BIKE IS IN PIECES RIGHT NOW FROM WINTER UPGRADES, BUT AS SOON AS I GET IT BACK TOGETHER WITH THE NEW PAINT I WILL BE TAKING PICTURES AND WILL POST THEM UP HERE AS I GAINED SO MUCH KNOWLEDGE AT THIS SITE.



FOR CURRENTLY QD IS WITH S100 DETAIL AND WAX AND THE BOM. I KNOW I HAVE READ THAT THE BOM IS JUNK ON THIS SITE BUT IT WORKS GREAT FOR MY CHROME. I DONT POLISH, SEAL OR WAX MY CHROME. I JUST KEEP IT SPOTLESSLY CLEAN WITH THE BOM AND IT CLEANS EASY AND LOOKS BETTER THAN NEW. EVERYWHERE I GO PEOPLE ASK ME HOW I KEEP THE BIKE SO SPOTLESS, BUT I WANT MORE. WHAT QD WOULD YOU RECOMMEND? I WAS READY TO CONVERT TO ZAINO BEFORE THIS SITE. NOW I FEEL THAT THE S100 WILL DO FINE FOR AS OFTEN AS I PROTECT THE BIKE. I WAS JUST WONDERING WHETHER I SHOULD CLAY OR USE SEALER. I THINK I WILL ORDER KLASSE AIO AND SG ALONG WITH NEW HIGH QUALITY MF. ANY RECOMMENDATIONS OF MF? ANY ADVICE ON APPLYING THE AIO AND SG?

I would skip the SG, maybe WG or UPP, but its black right, so id go with WG sealer.



You wax alot, so i would get 2,3,4 jars of wax and check out what look you like best on your bike. On weekends just AIO it(strip) and seal, next day wax.



Pretty much any of the online vendors have good micros, they would be crucified here if they has Wally world ones lol.



For the QD, i am hearing great things about the one Adams makes as well as quickshine. There is a thread right now about QD's.



Did the paint guy wet sand the final finish?



If he did, it should be perfectly smooth, if you fell alittle nub of crap, you *might* want to clay it, or bring it back to the paint guy and have him fix it. Ive seen American Choppers, and i can only imagine how much that custom stuff costs lol-

THE PAINT IS SMOOTH AS ICE NOW SO NO NEED TO CLAY. I WAS JUST WONDERING IF I SHOULD DO IT TO MAKE THE SURFACE AS PERFECT AS POSSIBLE SINCE THAT SEEMS TO MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE. AS FAR AS WAX GOES I HAVE TONS OF S100 PASTE NOW AND IT SEEMS TO BE HIGHLY REGARDED AMONG THE MEMBERS HERE SO I THINK I WILL STICK WITH IT FOR NOW.



MY BIGGEST QUESTION IS WITH SEALERS AND QD AS MY EXPEREINCE WITH THEM IS MINIMAL. I HAVE NEVER USED A SEALER SO I MUST ADMIT IM COMPLETELY IGNORANT IN THIS ARENA. I USE QD ALOT, BUT NOT SURE IF THERE IS SOMETHING BETTER OUT THERE. THATS WHY I AM HERE.

If you come back from a ride and your bike has some dust and what not on it, i would say get some Poor Boys spray and wipe waterless wash.



Then to bring back the pop i would go over it again with adams detail spray-



Both are spray on wipe off.



Some sealants look better on darker and some better on lighter colors. WG for dark, and UPP for light. They both have good protection and durability. Apply a nuba on top and the look is fantastic.



Sealants wont stain black trim. I actually use AIO and UPP on my trim, looks better than anyhting i have bought local, and lasts longer.



AIO i use on everyhing, windshield, headlights, ect. Would be great on chrome too. Cleans and has some protection. Great as a base for a sealant or a nuba, the most versatile product in the history of detailing except maybe DAWN lol, but dont go there hahaha.



The quicky on sealants is, proper prep to make them "stick" IE: AIO, always under a nuba not over, longer protection, kinda reflective, less depth.

One is a spray wash for light dust. The other *can* be used like it, but not on a custom paint job. The Adams detail spray will give you a great shine, the other one doesnt as much.

Correct. It will remove sealants, wax, and anything else except paint. It is used to give you the best surface to apply a topper onto.



You dont want to use it everytime you come back from a ride *unless* you seal or wax again. I think that is not needed though. A good sealant top with wax, will last on a bike a long time.

The autopia store carries AutoGlym Extra Gloss Protection. Another excellent product. Or you could use Klasse SG. Pretty much anything of quality will look excellent on your bike :)



I would make sure you have some good micros also.
