Newbie Question about layering wax over AIO/SG on new black car

Hi ... I am a primarily a lurker here, have gotten some great tips and ideas before and I now have a question about waxing my new car.

I just got a new black Acura TL and I want to get some ideas, and comments about my plans. I also have a question about layering wax over the AIO/SG combo.

Here is my plan ....

Claybar .. not sure if I really need to do this, but I thought I would give it a shot.

AIO, followed by a couple of layers of SG.

Finally, I was considering whether or not to add a layer of wax over the SG, but I have never done this before. The questions are what wax to use (I have Megs Deep Crystal Carnauba) and what to do when the wax wears off. At that point, do I just add another layer of wax or what? Since there is SG underneath, I was unsure of what to do. Does the SG add any durability to the wax layer?

BTW .. I am doing this all by hand.

Sorry for the twenty questions. I really appreciate the help and advice.

Don't worry, we LOVE questions! :xyxthumbs

Topping SG with carnauba is very common, I do it a lot myself. I actually don't like the look of SG without a carnauba topper. Basically, you can use any wax you want as long as it doesn't contain cleaners that will strip the SG off. A pure carnauba is what you want. First, apply your AIO wait about 30 minutes to an hour, then apply SG. Now, you have to wait 24 hours between each coat of SG to give it time to cure otherwise you will just remove the previous coat. You can layer SG as much as you want, I've heard of people putting as many as 6 layers! :shocked The purpose of SG under the carnauba is to have the durability of the SG (which is significantly longer than carnauba) but with the deep gloss of carnauba, great combo. After you get all the coats of SG that you want, just top it with your wax and you're done. Once every couple months just throw on another coat of wax and once a year or whenever you just want to play, strip off everything by applying AIO and start over.

Clay is a good first move, followed by AIO and Sg, hard to beat. Any wax on the surface of SG is purely sacrificial, although various users comment on better depth or brilliance once a "certain" Carnauba is used. I have yet to witness it, doesnt mean it doesnt happen, i just cant see it. SG isnt going to prolong your wax, although wax may prolong your SG. In pure maintenance mode, i would suggest applying wax every month, and redoing the entire surface at a minumum twice a yr. Specially with black, your going to have your hands full!

Also, welcome out of the closet!

I agree with everything said so far, I just wanted to mention that you should use a wax only product which contains no abrasives or chemical cleaners of any kind. :up
