newbie, new car and first car wash

Heloo all. Im a brand newbie with a new car and could use some help.

Im still reading and overwhelmed by so much different

acronyms and ways but I will try to absorb some:)

It's been almost a week and my goal for today is at

least give it a wash. So, with that said, what's a

good soap? If I don't wax or do anything today, is

there anything I can touch up after the wash to make

it like a few days a go I pulled it out of the

dealership?:)

I will try to get more stuff by next weekend

to do a more detail job as I read more. By the way,

the car is metallic silver. Thanks all!:thx

Two of my favorite over-the-counter soaps are Duragloss and Meguiars' NXT soap. Duragloss is available at many Napa and Carquest stores, and you can get NXT at Walmart. Make sure to pick up some 100% sheepskin wash mitts and a good quality microfiber drying towel (Meguiars makes a good drying towel) to help minimize marring from washes.

Edit: if your local place stocks Duragloss, that's your best bet for a wax too. Pick up #601 Polish Bonding Agent, #105 TPP and #951 Aquawax.

Thank you. I went to Walmart today and after 35 minutes of feeling like being in the twilight zone in the car detail section, I came out with:

sheepskin mitten

nxt soap

large mf towel for body

2 small mf towel for glass I guess

couple small terry towel for the wheels (hub cabs)

I also bought something called Streak Free Spottless Dryer by Detailer's Choice and just wonder is it good to use that together with the dry towell? For car tire dressing, what's a good one? I looked for armor all but don't see original shine just extreme shine.

TMT has some very good advice. When you're looking for the Meguiars drying towel, the best one OTC is the Meguiars Water Magnet waffel weave microfiber. I've seen it at Autozone and other auto parts stores.

Also, as it's a new car you should go over it with some detailing clay. New cars are exposed to rail dust and other possible contaminents during transport.

You picked up some good shampoo. Great bang for the buck. What brand is ur MF towel for drying? I have read that Armor All Extreme Tire Shine Gel is good for tire dressing. Comes with an applicator. I have never heard of Streak Free Spotless Dryer.

Welcome to the addiction allan!

I like the black eagle tire shine, just spray the foam on and walk away. Not sure the exact name, im having a brain fart but its a black aerosol can.

Thank you guys. What would you reccommend for a quick after wash, preferably something like a spray and wipe if there is such a thing, to keep the paint shiny. I would put this as a quick, lazy solution until next weekend when I pick up more stuff:)

You can pick up Megs NXT speed detailer, or Megs quick detailer at any walmart or auto part store. I like them both, I think the quick detailer will be more user friendly for you.

Jim's suggestions will work fine. You're much better off using them with microfiber towels. I wouldn't suggest using the quick detailer method if the car has anything more than a light, loose layer of dust, otherwise you'll rub abrasive dirt into the paint.

i have previous years of experimentation for cleaning cars. but i recently got into the whole pcing stuff aswell. the two cars i detaoil the most are black and metallic silver. i suggest getting some claymagic clay bar from autozone and then a quick qd until you can really get into it. that looks like a synthetic chamois you have in that container. now what no-one ever told me was that when you dry you never get 100% of the water so dont get discouraged when you see a little bit of water(too little to bead) i used to have cold sweat dreams cause no-one told me about that(im 18 with a 2007 car trust me i wake up in cold sweats alot) stoners more shine spray is the best tireshine ive used by far. i used the eagle one and the armor all and the y baked or washed off easily

I will try to get more stuff later today for next week and will try to catch on more stuff too. I think I saw a waffle weave at my local on sale so I will pick that up and return the other piece. i will also try out that stoner glass and tire more shine too. Thanks you guys for the recommendations.
