hi guys, i need your helps.

my car has some scrathes on the hood, so here is what i did attempting to fix the scratches.

1) i washed the car, 2) wet sand it using 2000 grit sanding paper from autozone, 3) used turtle wax polishing compound with my pc 7424 on the lake country orange pad.

but the haziness is still there, then i polished 2 or 3 times but I still can not get the shine back.

what did I do wrong?

Please help.

Compound is for swirl removal, you still need to "jewel" the paint with a fine polish.

I'm not sure what local parts store carry for that, but if you want to order you can get a 16oz Meguiars 205 online for around $10. Use that with some sort of finishing pad.

Find a local paint/body supply shop. They will have about a thousand times more options than your local AutoZone/Napa/etc. Often times Auto Value or O'reiley will have a paint/body supply store as well, those are your best bets if you must buy local.

turbo20- Some of the Meguiar's OTC products are very effective- Ultimate Compound, Scratch-X v2.0, Swirl-X (those are listed most-to-least aggressive). Or, as suggested, try the local autobody/paint supply store, looking for products like Meguiar's M105, M83, M205 or M80 (same order). BUT, don't let the guys at those stores talk you into some subsitute products and DO NOT buy Meguiar's M09 Swirl Mark Remover (what a misnomer that is!).

….I agree with Accumulators recommendation. UC, Scratch-X (the 2.0 version) and Swirl-X all utilize the same SMAT (super micro abrasive technology) formulation as their popular M105 and M205 (from their professional line). They are simply retail versions that are made to be more consumer friendly:

Personally, while I have found UC will leave noticeable marring when used by hand, I was surprised to find how well it finishes when applied by machine. Below is a snapshot I took while I was correcting some spotting issues after delivery of my ’10 Challenger. I would still follow up with a lighter/finishing polish but I think the picture helps to give you an idea of what I am talking about. …..btw, please excuse the cruddy photography (it’s really not one of my strong points):

I take it M09 is quite mild?

It's beyond that ;) So mild as to be functionally nonabrasive in almost every situation. It hides some minor flaws, which then come back later, so people think it did something that didn't really happen, leading to dissatisfaction.

It can have its uses, but I'm confident it's not the right product for your application.
