Newbie needs help with Onyx 2001 IS300 in poor condition

Hello,

First post here. Been reading up and doing a few searches but perhaps I will get better advice by just asking.

I have a 2001 Lexus Black Onyx IS300. Car has been outside all its life from what I can tell.

Has tons of oxidation, various colored blemishes that won’t come off with a clay bar, and endless swirl marks.

I see that my car may or may not be a stage 1, not sure how to confirm that.

I have no experience with the porter cable or any of the products being sold on here. I use my hands and Zaino products only. But the paint on this car is just awful, and I am not so sure it can be improved without a power buffer, I could be wrong about that.

I honestly don’t think I can make the paint any worse than it already is, so I would like to go ahead and get a PC kit off this site and various products and go ahead and try to improve my car’s paint before I give up and get it repainted.

Can anyone suggest a step by step process with what products and pads I should use for this car. I found a post about an RX 330 in black and themightytimmah suggested the follow sequence. How does this sound for my car?

Thanks for any advice, I appreciate the help

Kip

“I'd get:

PC

2 orange pads

2 white pads

1 black pad

Poorboy's SSR2.5

Poorboy's SSR1

Clearkote Red Moose Machine Glaze

Poorboy's EX Sealant

Pinnacle Souveran

Go over it with SSR2.5/orange until the major defects are gone

then SSR1/white until its haze-free

then RMG/black to add depth and hide irremovable defects

then EX by hand

Wait 24 hours then Souveran by hand

Add another coat of Souveran every wash until you get to 3.

Enjoy the best looking black vehicle on your block, possibly in your state.

Also where is the suggested place to purchase the above if it is what I should use and what PC kit from this website is the best bang for the buck?

that sounds like it would work. Instead of describing pads by their color (as this depends on the manufacturer), describe them by their type ex cutting, light cutting, polishing, finishing, etc.

2.5 on a cutting followed by 1 on a polishing followed by rmg on a polishing and then ex on a finishing topped w/ souveran would be blinging on black for sure!

Looking at what they sell through this website all I see are colors: Orange, Green. blue, and a buffing pad. I take it those are what the cutting, polishing, etc

buy a pc at lowes for 109 dollars. offhand, i know autogeek, excel, and pakshak carry all those items in one place.

crewkip, have you purchased any products yet? Sounds good but it also sounds like a lot of steps for paint that is on the soft side if it's the OEM stuff.

I care for my sisters BO '02 IS with Menzerna IP and FPII and other than the battle chips, it looks new.

So what would your steps be? No I have no purchased any products yet. Was hoping to find where to buy them and what I should buy first. All I had right now are Zaino products.

I should also have asked, are you using your hands, PC or rotary?

EDIT: Never mind, I see now. Do you have any pictures of the car?

I would go with a light cutting pad on the PC with Menzerna IP and then a polishing pad and Menzerna FPII. You could use your Zaino after that.:)

Looking over your list again, you're going to need clay and lube. Make SURE you get a clay kit to remove all the bonded contaminates from the paint. This will give it the *smooth* feel and make polishing much easier.
