Newbie - M105. 7424, LC 4" Orange - Filmy at wipe off

I had been using Sonus 1,2,3,4 on my RV. Ran out of pads so went with LC orange and Meguire's 105 to remove heavy oxidation. Got the Meg and pads today. Seems to be working great except when I want to wipe off with a microfiber towel, the 105 leaves a film. A wet MF gets it off but this seems like I am doing something wrong. Any ideas?



I called Meguires and they said to apply a bead of 105 around the outside of the pad.



I apply with PC at #3 for a few smearing passes - then up to #5 for four passes. Then wipe off - but as I said, the wipeoff leaves a film.



This is in Austin, TX. RV is outside. This side is in the shade. Temps are upper 80's and low humiditiy.

It's a somewhat oily product, so yeah, it can do that.



Wonder if the film is from the oils, or maybe a mix of product and oxidized paint residue :think: Whenever you're doing really heavy work this I wouldn't necessaryilly expect a pefectly clean wipe-off, and M105 isn't exactly the most user-friendly product when it comes ot how it wipes off anyhow.



Note that many people use some sort of spritz when buffing off the M105; I use Meguiar's #34, others use IPA.

Don't do the slow smearing passes. I'd set the PC on 6, set it on the paint, and start working. I'd do more than those four passes, more like six. I'd work small areas. Remember that the small pads (good choice) will quickly load up with cut-off paint/oxidation and dried product. You have to clean pads very frequently with M105, let alone when dealing with severe oxidation.



Prime the pad properly (see Kevin Brown's recent thread on how to do this and for some other good info) and don't use excessive product. I would *NOT* do the "ring around the outside of the pad" but that's just me; again, see Kevin's thread.
